Ok so now I have a problem, mani59's seats look really good with the red against the silver but bz4kev's look amazing too, really like the shape of those seats and the knee support. Think I'll have to see what becomes available. Does anybody have any images of RX-8 seats fitted in there cars?

If you want a cheap option I'll have a set of standard sport seats in black leather available for a good price in around 1 month's time; they are electric, heated and in very good condition save for a little bit of wear on the driver's bolster as normal; happy to keep them aside for you if you want them. I just bought a set of M3 seats from a forum member but don't have a chance to fit them until I move back to Scotland mid-October.

BTW, my car has manual seats, is it a big job/possible to change to electric?

Just a thought OP, but if you do decide to go for E46 seats you might get them cheaper out of any 3 Series Sport model than from an M3 (no M Tax)!

Hi all, quick update on above, I've managed to secure a complete m3 interior on ebay for a good price. Shame its not red because that did look good but I'm pleased with the black ones I've found. Thanks to you all for the advice. I'm sure I'll be calling on your expertise in the future.

You never know, you might get a few quid for your old seats - not everyone is a fan of leather!
