Just goy my Z4 E85

Post by vail3r » Mon Jun 24, 2019 8:58 pm

Hello!

Not had my Z4 long but I love it! It's not my daily car, I just wanted something for days off :D Just my luck though the engine light came on yesterday so going to borrow my friends reader to check what's up. Hope it's nothing too serious. It's a 2007 2.0

First jobs are: I have ordered a a new third brake light as it's cracked and also have a dent on the OS rear quarter panel that I'm hoping I can get someone to pull out as from what I have read they are a nightmare to remove the panels. The wheels aren't in the best shape so I'll be refurbing those asap.

A few questions if anyone can help (I have been reading through lot's of stuff on here but I couldn't find the answers to these):

- Is there a way to check the compartment where the roof motor is for water? Do I need to take part of the roof off or is there a way to see in?

- The passenger side mirror doesn't work. Does anyone have any idea what the cause of this is likely to be? Something in the mirror itself or wiring somewhere else?

- The fog lights look awful with stuff inside them, is it an easy job to take these out and clean them up?

- I drove at night last night and the headlights are terrible. My other car has LED lighting and it seems so poor in comparison. Is there better bulbs (led/hid that people have used)

- Does this look lowered or are they all this low? I can't get it on my drive without scraping the front bumper at the minute

Welcome- looks well. I’ll try and answer the questions you have below but if you search for these you will find comprehensive answers.
1. Drain holes at the base of the car just forward of the rear arch can be opened and used to help ensure the reservoir is clear.
2.sorry can’t help on the mirror.
3.easy job to remove but only real repair to condensation is to replace. Some have drilled air holes but not always succeeded in losing the moisture
4. Lights- non xenon are poor. Some newer crystal blinds can help I believe but they will never be great.
5. From your pics the car does look low.
Z4 2.2 sterling grey,Msport seats,retrofit cupholders,cruise,footwell lights,sound gen and mfsw,18"ellipsoids,xenons+light washers,ZHPknob,folding mirrors,3"stubby,update wheel caps,gateway300 ipod, wind deflector to keep the wife happy!

Hi and welcome to the forum - bonus points for a photo in your first post too.

I can't help with some of your questions, but I drilled my fog-light lenses and they have stayed dry since I did - but they need to be in decent shape when you do it otherwise replacement is really the only option.

Your car does look pretty low - does it have M-Sport suspension? If so they sit 15mm lower than SE models. You could put your VIN into a site like "mdecoder" to see what the original spec was.
Coupes because stunning!

Gone - Montego Blue

Ahh yes it shows it has the M-Sport Suspension!

I'm going to take the fog light's out then and see if I can sort them. Not so bothered about actually having the fog lights working if I'm honest, I just want the front to look a bit tidier.

The headlight's are clear and in good condition. Are HID's going to cause problem with condensation as I assume the ballast won't fit in the housing?

Hi op , welcome to the forum
As paddy wright mentioned, the drain plugs are as he stated , however, as a lot of us have found , the sleeve the Motor sits in can also flood from previous blockages of those plugs , this is why so many have had the motor re positioned to the boot , it’s really the only sure way of stopping the motor flooding at some point in the future, there are a few members on here that provide a great service for this , I personally used bowser. Alternative option is to have a go yourself if you’re still nimble and flexible ( I failed miserably) once it’s in the boot, it can be maintained and checked as often as you want ,
