Hard top z4

Post by Mikel8318 » Thu May 09, 2019 11:50 am

Hi,

Quick question, see if i was to leave the hard top on a z4 2004 reg, would it be ok left outside during the winter? Or would i still be better garaging it?.

Cheers

The hardtop will protect the soft top - without a garage that's a bonus, but since you have the option of garaging then its more a question of protecting the general bodywork. A fitted hardtop will have no problems outside over winter.

Thanks Marlon,

Im in process of moving house / new job so still to see if i can get a garage somewhere. If the hardtop will protect it anyway then thats a bonus huh. Cheers

I have a hardtop fitted specifically for the winter. My car is a daily driver and sits on the drive taking everything the UK weather can throw at it. An added bonus of the hard roof is that it stops the rain getting into the drain channels for the soft top where the roof motor sits (unless you have moved it)
E85. 2.5i SE. 2004. Sterling grey, anthracite 107s, black leather heated seats, hardtop, sound gen retrofit, matt black grills, stubby, zhp, cupholders retrofit, roof motor in boot.

We have my son's Mx5 on the drive at the moment, while he is off in NZ. The hard top on that makes a world of difference. It pushes the rain out away from the drains for a start. So far less chance of the boot filling with water, coming in at the wrong angle in a storm.. Still far better off in the garage though. Just leave the Mrs shoes out. That should clear enough space.

Hi Chapeau/ Buztg

Good points, thanks. I personally think the hard top is ugly but if its good at protecting then id have it fitted.

Cheers
