Newbie/oldie saying hi again.

Post by chuckmiester » Tue Oct 30, 2018 12:31 pm

Hi all. I had a black 03, 3.0l with red leather about five years ago which I traded in for a Porsche 996 c4s. The zed was bought by a forum member on here but I don’t think he kept it long. Anyway I’m back after the farther in law has very kindly given us his merlot red 3.0l zed. Not my first choice in colour but should look ok when it’s had a good detailing. It’s mechanically very good having still got the bmw extended warranty on it. It’s just had a new steering rack and colum to cure the sticking steering problem. And is going in for the abs warning light looking at and a new idler pulley. Looking forward to getting it in the garage and giving it a well deserved machine polish. It’s only ever had a bucket of water thrown over it in the last eight years. Oh and get the sponges out of the sound generator. I’ll get some pics on asap

Hi, I think the Merlot is a very under-rated colour - they look a real show stopper in the sun; particularly if you can get a deep shine on it. .....and that from a blue Zed driver! Seen a few roadsters with the light (champagne?) interior and they look good.

Didn't even know it was a colour option when I started looking. Still (and not wishing to offend any owners) he could have given you a 'urban green' one

It does look good in the sun. It just looks very dull and flat any other time.its got the cream leather which does go nice with the colour. Especially with the hood down. Never seen a green one :o

Welcome back OP.

I think Merlot looks fantastic - shame they seem to have dropped that colour when the facelift came out. :(

Hi. We love the velar. Had it 12 month now, no problems at all. Fantastic interior and still not many on the road.

Finally got the car home and in the garage yesterday. First impression was good. It’s been about 5 years since I last drove a zed.
One problem I have come across straight away is the steering wheel is not at 12 o’clock when going straight ahead. It had a new column and rack fitted about 6 months ago by bmw. I wonder if they’ve fitted the new column one spline out. And how hard it would be to correct.

Take t back to BMW and let them sort it, pretty poor if they left it like that. Bet that was a big bill.

I think the bill was around 2k all in. Only cost him £100 excess on the warranty. I’ve just had an hour in garage and fitted a new inlet pipe. The old one had a split in it, and also a DISA valve upgrade kit. I’ll try and get some pics on at the weekend.
