New to the BMW world, need guidance!

Post by Kozach75 » Sun Sep 30, 2018 7:03 pm

Good Evening from Rainy Athens!

After an 8 month search finally purchased my E89 23I.

55k miles on the clock Alpine white with all the goodies, Sat ~Nav, sport seats, auto tranny and all servicing in the mail dealer in Greece. Got it from a 55 year old lady which happened to be a very close friend with my boss!

As I am new to the Z4 world ( coming from Jeeps) have some quick questions which I m sure have already been answered, but anyway, here goes

1. Is the auto tranny reliable? I owned an X5 4.4 2002 built and the tranny blew, 4k repairs. Any preventive maintenance needed?

2. The car says that the next oil change is due in 20k km ( roughly 15k miles). Last change was 6k miles ago, should i change the oil and filter again?

3. First day I got it I parked outside my home nose down which is about 15 deg incline. The next morning I hear a "BOING" and a " add a quart oil" message appeared! When I call the previous owner she said not to worry as this happens when parked nose down on a steep road. Turning off and on the car the reading went back to normal. After a little google research found this to true, can someone reconfirm this?

Any reply is welcomed!!

Konstantinos

Hi and welcome Konstantinos.

Some good advice above, but on the topic of changing the oil and filter it needs doing every 2 years regardless of mileage so it would be worth checking when it was last done.

It sounds like you have found a nice example - you could always post a photo or two (we like photos)! :)
Coupes because stunning!

Thanks guys!

Photos will be coming soon as it hasn't stopped raining for 2 days straight! Medicane they call it.. on level ground the oil level is up to the max. but it was scary getting a car and the first day getting a low oil alarm....

last change was in march 18 when the car had the bg sevice including spark plugs etc etc.

hope i get some more feed back from members!

Sorry to hear about your weather - it's actually been dry in my part of the UK for several days!

If it had oil and filter done in March I wouldn't think of doing it again until at least next March, although if you stick to the BMW intervals it will be another 20K km or March 2020 - whichever comes first.

I'm sure you'll get more feedback - especially once you have photos!

Hi Konstantinos
I've had a 23i auto for the past 3.5 years and its been fine and yes if I park it with it's nose down the drive its bongs on the next startup (it now lives in the garage on the flat.... no more bongs!). I change the oil/brake fluid once a year (personal choice), the only other expenditure Ive made were new tyres and rear brake pads. Enjoy your new car and I hope it stops raining!
