Driving my untrusty BMW 318 touring when a Z4 for sale at less than 3k caught my eye and when the sales guy said he would give 1k for my old touring I became the new owner of my Z 2.2i to complement my special that is like a Lotus 7 but powered by an MX5 turbo and my Quantum 2+2 track car I was delighted to find the Z had a 6 pot motor after expecting a 4 pot.
Years ago I had a TR5 which I loved and was the car I should never have sold and here in my Z I have found a car that would possibly be a modern equal to that great Triumph and more to the point is that BMW own the Triumph name.
I really like the Z and have owned it for over 3 months and it has the usual BMW water loss and oil leak as yet to be investigated after I first check the DISA valve. The tyre pressure light stays on and I am used to the BMW unreliable warning lights from my 318.
The Z will be used to get me to work though I am 67 I still go in for 2 days a week.
I love the handling and the modern look of the car plus the fuel at over 35 mpg is better than I thought and on a run over 40mpg is very good indeed. but have no plans to modify it in any way as my special gives me enough thrills as it is.

Hi and welcome - roadster always a good choice in my book  (says a roaster driver!)

I run a Caterham as well so my Zed is almost stock - the great thing is the Zed has turned top down motoring - in the Se7en from a summer treat to an all year treat  The cabin heater in the Zed and heated seats (if yours has them) make below zero top down motoring a fantastic experience.

Have a look at some of the threads on the forum (search facility on top left tool bar) and find out how to get your warning lights sorted; some of them are there to save you a shed load of money (if not your life) and in my view you need to trust all of them.

I built the special and had a choice of an age related number plate but the DVLA had already wasted 2 months of the summer by losing my cheque for registration so any more messing was not an option plus the emissions have to comply with the year of reg but a "Q" is not so strict although I had to put a CAT on it to pass the CAT1 test and I will never build another car as the SVA test is so easy to fail. Oh and I live in south Hampshire ten miles short of getting very wet in the sea!
Thank you all for your welcome and I do indeed have the heated seats so look forward to some winter top downs when the Special is hibernating.

Thanks for the welcome folks.
Yes a complete petrol head family ours is, wife is a qualified driving instructor and has a pristine MX5 and has had a string of sports cars. Daughter owns several classics including a 90's M3 and has raced at Le Mans. (check out Dave TV's new classics show this Sept in which she is a presenter).
I feel that the Z is a true modern classic and as such will never have to go down the banger isle before accepted as such.
