Been watching what seems to be a pile of lovely people here!

I used to own a Z3, but had to sell it due to dying wifes medical bills,.....2 weeks ago picked up used 2005 Z4 with 50,000 miles
2.5L Automatic....yeah i know, automatic, but im LAZY

Love it! However its already IN the shop for a ROOF hydraulic motor replacement :rofl: which i now know is a known problem

Hi and welcome - get your shop to relocate the motor into the boot (left hand rear recess) so in future it stays dry and can be accessed easily to service/check.

Yes, thank you, i heard about that, however my meechanic said he wouldnt do that, ....hes a great guy and VERY well respected and CHEAP too, so i didnt wanna protest with him

the repair is only costing me $1200 :P i know its $500 part and 6+ hours total labor

I don't know what the weather is like in your part of the states but if your leaving it where BMW put it than keep checking the drains are clear so water goes past the motor rather than swamping it. BMW put it in a plastic canister lined with foam rubber - this acts like a sponge so once it gets wet it stays wet. This is a real problem for UK based cars which is why a lot of members on here move it into the dry of the boot.

Ohh im in SOUTH FLORIDA and Kentucky.....but yes, i had them FIX (permanently) the drain issue.....ive seen ever video made so far about the roof motor design flaw and its consequences :headbang:

Hows that possible? The new part alone cheapest is about $350 from what ive seen .....most are $600

I know from others that theres at least 4.5 hours of labor :D

Welcome to the board. Great looking Zed. :thumbsup: Yes a proper little cottage industry over here, sorting dead and dying roof motors. So much so that the price is much cheaper now, than it was several years ago. I guess if you have less failures over there then the price won't drop. You pays the going rate and enjoys your new P &J :driving:
