buzyg wrote: Wed Aug 08, 2018 12:53 am Welcome to the board. Great looking Zed. Yes a proper little cottage industry over here, sorting dead and dying roof motors. So much so that the price is much cheaper now, than it was several years ago. I guess if you have less failures over there then the price won't drop. You pays the going rate and enjoys your new P &J :driving:
Werd guy ! 8) i asked to mechanic to give me the OLD rusted motor,....ill get it back tomorrow and post pics of the rusted beast :headbang:

Smartbear wrote: Tue Aug 07, 2018 10:41 pm Hi, that’s not cheap-the right guys can do this job in under an hour for £80! :o
Rob
Hows that possible? The new part alone cheapest is about $350 from what ive seen .....most are $600

I know from others that theres at least 4.5 hours of labor :D
the guys over here can revive even the dead-est of dead motors!
and because they get access to it and pull it into the boot it takes about 30mins to an hour. DLV moved mine (as an insurance -it was still working) in around 20 mins.

Even rusty corroded looking motors come back to life after a soaking in diesel. I guess necessity is the mother of invention and with so many failures members in the UK worked out another way to access the motor and saved a lot of time (and money) compared to BMW book time.

We have several Forum members who work miracles resurrecting dead roof motors and relocating to the boot without removing the roof - all for around £80
For example this sodden lump was brought back to life in under an hour by DLV:

Ahhhhh yes, ive SEEN all the pics of them relocated to the trunk, but i didnt think people were refurbing the rusted junk and then relocating them.

Id not relocate the original junk,...but id certainly love the CHEAP no roof removal relocation. :D

id least put out $500 for a new motor, ....before relocating it,....but yes thats damn cheap Wooo 8)
