Hi from manchester

Post by Ianth » Mon Jul 09, 2018 3:23 pm

Just a quick introduction from me,never owned a bmw before, had all kinds of sports cars but strangely enough no BMW’s. Anyhow I have just sold my Porsche Cayenne and was looking for a summer use motor and came across a cat s 2017 z4 2.0 which I liked the look of,not got it delivered yet but am looking forward to getting stuck into it,no doubt I will be asking all kinds of things on here before to long.i will add photos when I get the car.i am a mechanic by trade but don’t usualy get involved in bodywork so maybe a challenge for me.
Looks like nsf corner damage, headlamp bumper bonnet, airbags, screen.

Porsche Cayenne to a Z4 2.0 - quite the leap. I think you'll be looking at the remap pretty quickly. ;)

Thanks guys, not been delivered yet so can’t put pics up,starting to get buyers remorse now if I am honest.....ah well to late to worry about what I have done, you only live once.
I actualy have a audi a2 tdi that I use every day and to be honest I love the car so much it’s one I wouldn’t dream of selling,it’s that car that has made me sell things like my Rs4 cab,Audi r8,Cayenne,911 cab that I have had over the years, mainly because I look at the depreciation and the running costs of these and I sit in my 30 quid a year tax and 65mpg and think do I need it,lol.of course I don’t as I am happy in my a2,park it anywhere,100% reliable and cheap to run for the year,I just like having a second car which is what my a2 has been, but realised the a2 is my first car and I want a second car for occasional use..........hence buying a 2 seater drop top for the occasional summer use, obviously buying it cheap as it’s cat s,won’t know till it comes whether it’s economical to repair but the damage looks quite minimal on the photos.

Never did get round to updating this, the repairs was extremely straight forward, new airbags/dash tensioners.
The body damage was restricted to bonnet and bumper,so replaced those and a headlamp, the major cost being all the pyrotechnics for the bonnet system,it has pedestrian safety so has active locks and hinges etc, easy enough to rectify but a bloody fortune.
Anyhow I have been using it over the last 6 months and must say I am impressed with all aspects of the car.
As usual I get bored with my own cars after a short while,so it’s been advertised on and off over last 6 months, starting off at a little profit for me for all the work done and ending up at what it owes me £15k all in.
For all the adverts I have only had one single enquiry, but not a single person viewing it,so I think a cat s must turn people off immediately, don’t know why if the repairs wasn’t major and no serious damage.
He had a rac inspection done and immediately withdrew his interest, after reading the report I don’t blame him at all.
Low water level was listed as a fault! The level was between min and max, however this was described as low so must be gospel,no warning lights, topped it to max with approx 250 ml and it’s not budged from that.
So when is low actualy low?
The engine bay was clean so was listed as a fault as it may be disguising oil leaks, haha,it’s clean because I clean it every week.
A new bonnet was listed as a fault?
And on and on.

rac wouldn’t even explain themselves to me as I hadn’t paid for the report , I was so angry that the engineers can get away with things like this, more so as he was extremely complimentary about the car to my face.
Ah well,I may as well keep it than sell at a loss so no big deal as I have grown to realy appreciate it for what it is and do find myself taking a second look at it when it’s parked up.
So looks like I will be a long term lurker on this forum now.
Obviously the obligatory pictures in the sun are below.

Cheers, yes it was listed with a Red Cross rather than a green tick and in the notes it said engine bay is clean and maybe disguising oil leaks, that is only one of a few notices that I deemed way over the top.
I do understand they have to cover themselves, however with being in the trade I also understand how incompetent they are

I have resigned myself to keeping it now as there’s no way I would sell it for a loss,it’s such a good car that I am happy to keep it for a few years and get my moneys worth out of it,especially now the suns out and the mercury is rising.
