First Z Next week and a Tyre question

Post by Davidcliff » Thu May 17, 2018 9:19 am

Hello
I will collect my first Z next week after many and varied sports cars and convertibles , some very raw and very fast, and the time has come for a nice car that my wife and I can do some touring in and generally have a bit of luxury. Last car was a TVR Tuscan with all the power you could ever want and no refinement at all, much to my sons disgust I have now become old and fussy and bought a 3.0Z4 Sdrive M sport Roadster Manual 2011. Collecting next Tuesday . I drove the car and a few others before I decided and whereas the out and out performance has no comparison with previous car the overall package is so refined and comfortable in comparison it is the right car for right now .
First trip to France over Bank holiday weekend, I will buy Breakdown cover ! :)

So the Tyre question, when I drove the car it felt firm and the roads are so poor as we all know I could feel the poor road surface quite a bit . I might add compared to a Tuscan it was gliding on cotton .
I intend to change all four tyres when I get the car as I often do when I buy a new car, I prefer to start all new and all tyres I know the history of . I generally but the top range Avon , as I have used so many times before and always with good results . I did not look and see what was on the car today , dont know if it will be RF or not today. The car has 18'' Star Spoke 325M alloys wheels.

I will replace with non run flats and may change the size to give a little more compliance .
Can you tell me what sizes are likely to be on the car now as standard.(Yes I could ask the dealer ) I may come in one width to go up one on profile when I change .

What have others done with these wheels on this car ?

Thanks

David

Hi David, most people that change from run flats stay with the standard sizes & notice a good improvement in ride quality (this is for 18’s, those with 19’s often go up a profile as you suggest to save the wheels from cracking)

Thanks for the reply.
So I will go 225 40 18 on the front and the rear 255 35 18

Has anyone done 255 40 18 at the rear for a bit more compliance or perhaps 245 40 18 to get nearer the original size overall ?
thanks

I have always upsized whether 18s or 19s unless on ///Ms where they are already done from factory .
The style 325 are 8j fronts so you can go 215 45 - 225 45 / rears are 8.5j so 245 40 as you indicate would be ideal
