Convertible or coupe?

Post by Jamie marZh4ll » Mon May 07, 2018 4:51 pm

Hey just signed to the forum as I’m looking for advise,

I’ve been looking for an upgrade grade to my c2 vts and decided on a z4.
The thing is convertible or coupe? 🤔

An advise, pros ‘n’ cons on which to get would be great!

Welcome to the forum Jamie.
No one can really advise what to do as its down to personal circumstances .
If your Z is going to be your daily driver all year round maybe the hatchback would be slightly more practical .
However you can always fit an hardtop to the roadster.

For what it's worth IMHO you've got to have a drop top in your life , there's nothing quite like open top motoring, but that's easy for me to say as mine is a weekend toy.

Good luck with your search.

I'm lucky I have both. But IMHO Z I would go topless as a first. You will never look back. Buy you have to use as long as it's dry. They are not just sunny day cars, nothing better than a had and scarf in Autumn blowers in full tilt and s crisp breeze. Clears all the s**t of the day. Go roadster bud.

Nine convertibles and one coupe........ I like droptops. When I didn't have one I really missed it .....

If you don't mind wind going down your neck and sun beating down on you and occasionally having to stop suddenly and put the roof up , the ragtop is the answer. BUT, ... it's all about what you like....choose wisely grasshopper and never, ever ask which one is better.

Well the roadsters are generally, cheaper to buy and more fun to drive. So easy one for me. Coupe is stiffer, not that it needs to be. more practice as a daily and looks more pretty, than a roadster with the roof up. So get a Roadster and keep the roof down at all times. :driving:

Simples :D

Hi am only new to this myself, 3months. I really wanted a coupe, but this roadster turned up for a fair price and haven't had a single regret.
track days or the nurburgring coupe, but everyday living? they are a lovely chassis and a great sit on the back axle droptop.
so........ get a roadster simple as, and don't pass up the 2.0l mine is quite sprightly and so light, it's 'B' road perfect. and returns 34mpg
win win..

If it's going to be your only car a Coupe may be slightly more practical, but as has been said they do cost a bit more than equivalent Roadsters.

Either will be quite a step up from your C2, so it probably depends which you prefer.

For me it wasn't an issue, it was Coupe or nothing just for those looks.

But there isn't a wrong answer - they're all Z4s!

Roadster. Otherwise you’ll always wonder what you are missing. Especially on a day like today.

No issue it being a daily driver. It’s almost as refined and the hood won’t cause any issues as long as you do some basic maintenance.

I'm barely qualified to reply to this as I have only owned a Z4 for 7 hours (and counting)...but I'd say convertible. This question is a bit like the comparison between mountain bikes and road bikes. Yes, the road bike is more focused and great at being a road bike, but the mountain bike can be ridden off road AND on the road. You can't ride a road bike off road with much success. Likewise, the convertible offers you two worlds in one. It might not be as stiff as the coupe, but the coupe can't give you as good a tan when the sun's out! :D

+1 Roadster

You can't do this in a coupe!

Get the best of both worlds if you can, I've had mine 3 weeks, hardtop on is fun, but softtop down with the sun shining cannot be beaten :D :D :D

Yes, that is probably the best solution - now if only I had somewhere other than the living room to store a hardtop during the summer!
