First post, just bought this.....

Post by zeequattro » Sun May 06, 2018 10:06 am

Hello all,

I’ve just bought my first z4. It’s a 2006 2.5i,on only 65k! I think it’s an SE model. I’m planning on just keeping it as a weekend toy, which has been perfectly timed with the weather we’re having this weekend!
It’s my first time back in a petrol car after a few years running a 335d, and currently a 640d. Both of which were/are obviously a lot faster than the z4, but not anywhere near as much fun!
Cars in fabtastic condition!
But one issue it’s got is a squeaky rear wheel. It’s very apparent at low speeds with the roof down. It’s probably still there at high speeds but gets drowned out by engine and wind noise. It goes away if you apply the brakes lightly or apply the handbrake. I’ve had a look at the heat/dust shields behind the disk, and they seem tight and in good nick. Tried to push them back slightly but they seemed pretty solid and I didn’t want to push too hard and end up breaking something.
The rear wheels look to be on spacers so I’m not sure if this could have anything to do with it.
Any way here’s a pic of the car

Welcome. Squeaky could be a sticky pad or caliper. I have the same on my X3. Just not sorted yet. Hope it helps.

Thanks,

To be fair I’ll be taking it to a garage I know for further investigation. I just had a try with the shields incase as it could have been a quick solution.
My 640, does the same when your going round a slight left hand bend, although not quite as loud or consistently. I’m seem to remember the e92 doing it as well.
Must be a BM thing!

Give the brakes some heavy use - it might be a bit of glazing - however from experience the squeak often returns. For the price of a set of new pads, swap them, then get out and enjoy the new toy
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

I would swap the pads. I had the same problem on the Marlin. I would give them a good clean and they would shut up for a while but then it would start again after a while. I've just fitted nee EBC pads and the noise has gone away :)
