May as well introduce myself

Post by Al Blue4.6l » Sun Aug 26, 2007 9:41 pm

Just bought my first BMW- a 2003 Z4 3.0

I've always owned mustangs since I was 16. I started out with a 1995 V6, a year later I moved to a new 1998 GT. I wound up supercharging it...and then bending a couple rods. A complete forged rebuild later I decided that I wanted to have something less nice to drive daily (and to drive into the city since I was getting ready to start law school) and bought a 1991 Talon TSi AWD.

I got sick of fixing the Talon every weekend (if I never see another vacuum hose, so much the better) and worrying about when something was going to break on the Mustang. I sold the Mustang in December of 2005 and ordered a 2005 GT. It arrived in April and I sold the Talon. Then last year I decided to buy a Suzuki SV650 to ride around for fun.

This summer, while studying for the bar, something snapped and I decided that I needed a convertible (because I clearly need a 2 seater convertible and a motorcycle).

After a bit of searching, I came across the 2003 Z4 at a local BMW dealer. It was pretty much exactly what I wanted- seems extraordinarily well maintained, the right color, 6 speed manual, sport package, etc. I got the dealer to the price I wanted and decided to pick it up. Now I just have to sell the Mustang.

I'm really enjoying the car so far, and this forum has already been immensely helpful :)

Welcome aboard. I too have been driving Mustangs for as long as I can remember. I am down to one right now - an '83 GT that I have spread in pieces all over my garage ...

I've had my Z4 for a little over a year now, and I must say that on a day in and day out basis, the Z4 is lot more fun that any of my Mustangs. However, I still miss that V8 kick

and the exhaust. i drove the 05 around the neighborhood yesterday...i had forgotten how good it sounded.

the 05 frame (even on the vert) actually seems stiffer than the Z's, but wow did I feel like I was sitting high when I drove it again. Its also not nearly as telepathic as the Z. (or obviously as much fun to drive, despite being more powerful)

I currently have a mustang in pieces as well- a 1964 1/2 289 4 speed which I havent really worked on in two years. it really only needs a couple more hours of bodywork before we can put it back together (it currently doesnt have so much as a bolt left in it).
