Just bought a 2.5i sport Z4, (07 plate) as a second car for summer fun days with an open top. Love the car - not too keen on the ride at low speeds on minor roads. Steering feels fidgety and there is a tendency to tramline and ride is pretty harsh. The car has 225x40x18s on the front and 255x35x18s on the rear. All runflats. Any advice on swapping the tyres to improve the ride?

As the Tyreman says, I had the same experience when I got my car on runflats, make sure you have a competent 4 wheel alignment as well and chances are you will see a huge improvement

Thanks to all who sent replies.
Looks like I might have to bite the bullet and ditch the runflats.
What do you do though if you get a puncture?

+1 on the holts tyre weld. It's alot easier than many of its competitors for a tyre fitter to clean out.
I carry a couple of the 500ml cans and store them in the little compartment behind the battery where the amp for the carver stereo system lives on pre facelifts. They moved the amp to the bulkhead on post facelifts so its a good place to store them on these too.
To aid comfort a little more you could opt for M tyres sizes with 5% higher side wall. It's not to everyone's tastes but does help. Either way an alignment will help aswell.

I'm planning on ditching the RFT's too.
I've got 2 cans of Holts, a compressor, an E46 space-saver and a jack and wheel-brace - that should cover most eventualities! RAC card in case I missed something.

My runflats have plenty of tread left so I'll probably run them for a while and when its time to change go for non-runflats.
I have small problem though and that is that the tyre pressure sticker that BMW put on the drivers door pillar has worn off, so I don't know what pressure to set the runflats to. Fronts are 225 x 40 x R18. Rears are 255 x 35 x R18. Can anyone advise on the recommended pressures?
Can you get a replacement sticker for the door pillar?
Also if you switch to non-runflats will the optimum pressure values change?
