YELLOW WARNING LIGHTS

Post by Mole » Mon Feb 12, 2018 1:40 pm

I'd be grateful for any guidance or, just to know that what I'm experiencing is a common problem. Bought a 2008 Z4 2 litre a month ago. Low mileage (71K), and except for the roof not working (I'll wait until Spring) the car seemed OK. I bought it from a Carlisle Van dealer who had bought the car from the local Lloyds BMW dealer as, at 2008, apparently they normally don't put them onto the forecourt. My two big issues have been first the ultra light, tram lining steering. And secondly, four yellow steering and ABS related warning lights coming on, and off, and on. Then staying on!
I put the car into my local BMW dealership and had a full service done. They replaced several sensors and the rear off side suspension. I also asked them to replace the run flats. The result is better steering, not so light, but still not what I'd like. I sense it is as good though as it's going to get.
As regards the warning lights: They continue to light up like a Christmas tree five minutes after start up. The dealer obviously hasn't solved the problem.
Has anyone any words of wisdom please? The car runs beautifully other than that. Am I simply going to have to put up with these lights. On other words, get over it, and ignore them? Which, is contrary to why they are there. Thanks.

Something doesn't sound right, it need to be plugged in and codes read.

It could be another wheel speed sensor which I am guessing is what they replaced before or it could be something bigger and need an ABS DSC pump issue.

Something to start with is checking the tyre pressures and then reset the system.

Id also find a local specialist to take it too and wouldn't bother with BMW!

Just a word of warning too. If the lights are on, it means those systems won't be working. So if your abs light is on this system will be shut down. Just be careful if driving spiritedly as you won't have the electronic help.

If the dealer said they fixed it and it's still there take it back. As said, get codes read. Worst case scenario is the abs unit as already mentioned. If it is this, there are aftermarket peeps who can fix these for considerably less than BMW want.

As for your roof motor, do a search of the forum. Some have been brought back to life. Make sure your drain holes are clear too. There are a couple of forum members who can relocate this motor to the boot to avoid this happening again.
Past - Z4 Coupe, gone but not forgotten
