Hello from new member and owner

Post by afeldmanis » Mon Jan 15, 2018 7:28 pm

Hi, Just purchased my first Z4 2.0 sport. Really pleased and enjoyed first spin over the weekend. However gutted that I did not pick up on a very small flaw in the roof. It's only about 6mm round and does not go through the roof, so no leaks but would like to fix before it gets worst. Just been phoning around a few roof specialists today and been told to replace. Seems a costly option for what I would have thought is a minor repair. Prepared to travel to find someone from home in Crawley, West Sussex

Quite a common problem and is usually caused by the roof material over time touching and rubbing against the rubber shuttle, I had similar happen on mine and used this product to repair mine.

Beat me to it! I never asked you how your repair went, Swiftly, so trust it went ok then? :)

I found it to be quite fiddly stuff but extremely durable. Would have loved to have figured out the correct way to texture the surface, but only had the one shot at it and failed! Must be hundreds of people with the same issue - I sometimes notice it on Z4s in car parks. :?

The product is very flexible and it went on very well MrPT. :D Repair was still holding over 2 years later when I sold my zed, so I can highly recommend the product.

Welcome to the forum. Replacing the roof seems like overkill !
The above product must surely be your first step.

This is brilliant and I will of course give this a go. Got it in my my mind to tape a washer to the roof to stop overflow and then then perhaps use a scalpel to gently run along the contors of the vinyl while solution is setting. We'll that's the plan. Unfortunately can't take pictures of car as wedged against my son's car and he's still in bed, but will do later. The trimming companies that I spoke to must know about this product being in the profession so about annoying that that the advise given is to replace. Thank you all so much in your support here, really appreciated.

Hi and welcome - on a 'man math' type practical approach the damage doesn't matter - you bought a roadster you'll have the top down all the time
