Deleting posts?

Post by Loxford » Wed Sep 25, 2019 2:57 pm

Can someone confirm, it is not possible to delete one's own posts?

I have posted a question which I happened to resolve myself before any replies.

The delete button returned the message, "Cannot delete posts in this forum".

The best I could do was to use the edit button and replace all my text with a full stop.
This leaves a pointless post sitting there.

Any suggestions?

Thx

G

You can edit but not delete as you have found out. This is to keep an audit trail when there are disputes, it is also frustrating for other posters when a member decides on a whim to delete an entire thread in which there may be other sub-topics members are finding useful. You can of course edit out your own words

You can delete new posts, as long has no one has posted after you. I just confirmed that. I assume it was a new thread you wished to delete.

No three hour rule here. :D

It was a new unanswered thread. But my attempts to delete were thwarted.

I saw a forum member get mad and delete all his contributions which were many and helpful, and then leave.
Soon after the forum imposed a 3 hour rule. After 3 hours only a MOD can edit a post. It's frustrating at times but it keeps the MODs busy modifying posts by request :P

The 3 hour rule was implemented after more than one guy deleted his content. The forum took the stand that everything posted on the forum is forum content and thereby it is forum property the contributor can not delete. I see their point in the case where somebody ruins 1 or more threads by removing content critical to the discussion leaving the reader with a Swiss cheese version

There is no 3 hour rule for editing posts. Folk still edit today when they have sold something and replace with a “.”

I would test it, but being a mod I can’t
