Battery coding !

Post by coskermike » Sun Feb 26, 2017 10:04 am

Hi Guys, first post on the forum so be gentle :D I am in the process of buying a 35i but during the inspection it was found that the battery was in need of replacing. I have sourced a battery but reading around and there seems to be some battery coding involved. Could you guys shed some light on this for me please, does it need to be done ? Whats involved? Whats the cost ? Will the car run ok without it being coded ? Anyone do it remotely ? Thanks in advance chaps
Regards
Mike

Battery coding !

Hi and welcome.

Battery needs to be coded, it's more of a reset really.

If you haven't bought the car get the seller to sort first.

If u need to do it yourself, the Carly app can do it. You'll need to buy app and dongle tho.

Btw, intro, car specs and photo - it's the rools...

Thank you for getting back to me :) I am collecting the car towards the end of the week and I've haggled a better deal based on me sorting the battery ! I have a few contacts in the trade so the battery is working out cheaper ! So as a reset I'm guessing the car will run ok until it's coded ?

I envy you one or two items on your specification and the colour's excellent, too.
Now all you have to do - if they're run-flats - is buy some new tyres. Just don't buy cheap.

(I have no interest in wheel styles, but no doubt there'll be someone along soon who has and who'll comment on the ones on the car at the moment.)

yep, amazon for the dongle or cable. (ios/android)
You'll need to buy the pro app to gain the battery recode option i think, plus the other in-depth options the paid app gives. it's def worth it imo as some of the coding options are very handy.

Thank you busterboo, i think ive been lucky to find this spec. You are completely right about the run flats, there is about 4mm left on them so will use them up and then change them for something nice instead !
I will have a look on Amazon now to order the dongle and buy the app too :) cheers guys
I'm liking the forum already :D

I was just going to ask the question of whether it was worth buying the Pro version and what the differences are, so you have more or less answered for me. :D

I'm finding the 'live parameters' function quiet interesting as you can monitor various temps on the E85 as well as logging everything for later analysis. You can call that a bit anal but I bought a car with a few small issues that I fixed myself and as I'm not a trained mechanic by any margin it's just nice to keep an eye on things in order to validate/verify my own handiwork
otherwise the other functionality like code reading and coding are worthwhile....
keep us posted re how u get on.
lovely zed btw

I'm guessing carly works pretty much like a code reader, fault diagnosis and service light reset tool ? Other than live mapping what other tricks does it have ? The carly website seems quite vague !!

I think you can code different functions on the car with Carly, locking permutations, winker flashes etc etc
