Btw, jack oil is the same as the BMW stuff. BMW wanted £26 for 250ml. Got 500ml for £4. Both vg22.

500ml hydraulic jack oil from halfords, £3.00 with a trade card, about £5 without.

Same stuff, topped up several with it now.

My roof motor is a little noisy.
As I'd rather not break the zip tie just yet, could anyone confirm if the oil level looks about right, considering the pump is roughly 45 degrees from the vertical.
I've marked the level with a red line for clarity.
Also, is the orientation of the pump in any way critical for best operation e.g. to reduce air bubbles ? (My hydraulic lines are at the top, would they be better at the bottom given the pump angle ?)
Thanks.

It looks about right. You might be able to squeeze a little more in there.

How do you add oil if that’s not a daft question!

Good question. Easy if you have relocated the pump.....but what if it's in the original position?

Looking at the blurred picture in one of the posts above looks like a filler plug on the top. Might have to put the pump in a horizontal position first..

This guy put the hydraulic line connectors to the bottom of the reservoir. Which is best ?

Anyone know ?
Could some kind chaps tell me whether on their cars (with pump relocated) if the hydraulic lines are to the top or bottom of the reservoir.

The lines can be placed in any position needed for your particular installation. The hydraulic pump doesn't care.

Remove the screw in the top of the plastic reservoir and squirt some in with a syringe.

Thanks. I was a little concerned that if the lines are close to the level in the reservoir (as in my case - see photo a few posts up), it may try to suck air rather than oil through the pump.
