2011 BMW Z4 sDrive23i advice needed

Post by StanM » Thu Aug 18, 2016 2:08 pm

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying this BMW Z4 sDrive23i M Sport and would be interested what do you think.

The lady that had it before apparently rear ended someone  :P and the insurer decided to write it off on total cost and sold it to this dealer Southend Customz who repaired it using all BMW genuine parts and its now back on the market. I test drove it and it seems absolutely fine and spend an hour checking every electrical thing on the car and they all worked as they should.
The dealer has been honest about the car's past and the repairs they've done and it all looks good to me.

I understand that Cat D cars are not favoured by some but I'm thinking of keeping it for while so this doesn't bother me too much (I think :? )
My insurer (Aviva) is happy to insure it and the premium for swapping it with my current 2004 2.5i E85 would be just an extra £15. They only need to see a current MOT and a engineers report which the dealer will provide as they are selling lots of Cat C and D cars.
I've done an HPI check and everything else apart from the Cat D status is fine.

The car if fully loaded with extras and the sale receipts shows over £6000 of options added. I really like the colour combo and the low mileage as well.

Hi, personally I think it's a high price for a cat D car-there's plenty out there to choose from.

I agree with Mr Smartbear, sounds a little steep for a Cat D and I believe you'll find deep sea blue with black is a faster colour

I had a look and nothing in that price range (below £15K) that is well spec'd and in one of my favourite colour combos. I had a look at all the usual (AT, PH, eBay, motors.co.uk) and for similar spec'd examples without the Cat D you are expected to dig a lot deeper in thoose pockets (going for between £18K-£20K at the moment :o ) so I think its well priced as well.

Very tempting - coz it's a great colour combo and has low miles.

But...... what if your circumstances changed and you had to shift it one month after buying it - what do you think you could sell it for - and how long would it take to shift a £10k plus cat d car privately??

Very tempting but I wouldn't

Well I would.
But buying it as a summer weekend car, putting my private plate on, expecting to keep it forever and trying to get a grand off asking unless they've given an over generous Px.

If it was as a daily driver and move on in 2 years I'd look elsewhere, too much hassle.

That's virtually non cat D money & for similar you should easily step into a 30i Msport which will be a better buy even with more miles on
Yes its white on 19s , yes its got Nav spec & yes low miles at 19k but take the goggles off & its a 5 yr old 23i with Cat D history
Id want that to be around £10k to be fair , certainly no more than £11k but if it works for you that's all that matters

Yeah I originally thought of going for the 30i M Sport E89 but then this came up and it ticked all the right boxes and now all I can think off is buying it, giving it a good detail session and then taking it down to Paris or the whereabouts over the bank holiday weekend. It won't be my first impulsive buy for this year but I do hope it will one of the last.

I've done about 15K miles on my current E85 over the 3 years of ownership (5K last month during a trip around Europe) so if do buy this one it is very likely that it will spend more time being polished and cleaned than actually being driven as we have an A3 as our daily driver.

Also one of my prefered colour combos  but no sat nav and no 326's so I'll keep looking.

If I don't buy the white one by this weekend I'll probably stick with my E85 untill next summer so will have more time to research.

I did :driving: :D I've had it for a week now and it doesn't have the go-kart feeling like the E85 but it feels more stable on the road and more of a GT cruiser which is what I was looking for.
I've seen the photos from after the accident and the list of parts that were replaced and I am happy that it was all put back correct. We agreed on £12K at the end which is £6K less than a similar spec'd non Cat D car so I've got a pretty good deal at the end.
