New Z4 unveiled at the L.A. Auto Show, NOT!

Post by pmeloche » Fri Nov 21, 2008 5:33 am

Apparently, the new Z4 was ready to be unveiled at the L.A. Auto Show when BMW received a notice from the registration office that the name "sDrive" was already registered by the Yokohama tire manufacturer. :o So, down the drain with all the preparations and no time to adjust their plans for the L.A. show so the unveiling of the new Z4 will probably be at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2009. :x

Cheers.

Yes I have been following some of the other forums, it does seema biut disappointing that the launch keeps going back. The new names sound a bot of a mouthful too - BMW Z4 sDrive 35i roadster.

Looking at the spy pics again, there is something not quite right about the overall proportions, I hope that when all the camouflage is removed it becomes a bit clearer.

And lets hope they do decide to offer it with a ragtop option as a true roadster should be. These metal foldy things turn roadsters into hairdresser cars...

Thing is, I also have a 1.2 Micra and the guys at work refer to the SLK as "the girly car" (despite it having a throbbing 3.5 V6 under the bonnet!) but don't say anything about the Micra, which confuses me.

But you were right with your first comment, but what BMW will be looking to do is sell the next Z4 to more females, who have never really taken to the current style in great numbers, whereas the majority of SLK buyers are female. So the hardtop and softer lines will broaden it's appeal, but also put some people off too.

I think it might need a bodykit /rear spoiler and 19" wheels to look truly special.

There are two thoughts about the new roof. Some are saying hard top and others are saying cloth.

I reckon it might be a cloth covered option on a hot tin roof!

Bangle is a man I respect. He is normally three years ahead of the crowd at launch time.

I don't think they should change the existing body one bit.

Which parts would you change and why? (light colours do not count)

We'll drop the engine section as I think we know about 335tti and V8 options.

There are a lot of hairdressers in my neighbourhood (go figure why) but none of them drive Z4. :scratchhead:

Maybe a true roadster "needs" a soft top but I want a convertible. In the northern climates, you'll have the top up more often than not so I find the metal rooftop appealing for aesthetic and safety reasons. That's my CAD $0.02 or USD $0.01556.
