Not quite a Road Trip, but me and the missus are taking the Zed to Cornwall for a few days. 8)

Looking for some ideas on what to do on the way there or back, just to break the day up a bit.

Plus any "Must go" places once we are there. Gonna be based in St Austell.

I went in early June. Deffo try and book tickets now to the Minack open air theatre, was a very special place and I got our tickets last minute. They're very cheap too surprisingly. Also walk across the Causeway to St Michaels mount (check tides before of when to go). Lizard point and Kynance cove make a scenic day trip. Nothing is that far away. Search for my recent Cornwall thread for some pics and write up of trip. Carbis bay beach near St Ives is beautiful. Oh and do have a champagne afternoon tea!

Rule 1 : M3/A303 not M4/M5.

Pop in to stonehenge on the way for a bit of druiding?

Try and work the Cheddar Gorge into the trip out or back.... Might be a PITA thinking about it, but worth it just for the noise :driving:

Depends which day of the week. The 303 past Stonehenge can be statonary for hours, at the wrong time, on busy Friday or Bank Holiday.

But generaly I would agree it's the better route.

If you cut down to the South coast and take in Lyme Regis, it's a lovely run from there through to Exeter.

Based in St Austell, be sure to have a meal at the in Rashleigh Inn, at Polkerris, http://www.therashleighinnpolkerris.co.uk/. Then may be catch the Ferry over from Fowey to Bodinick, wait a few minutes and let the traffic go you, then you'l have a rather nice flowing undulating piece of Cornish tarmac to yourself. Turn right/ South at Lanreath and head down to Polpero and Looe. Fish and Chips from Kellys in Looe is also highly recomended. Just watch out for the Gulls. cos they will nick the lot. If you make it as far as Seaton, along the South coast, our current favourite eatery, for an early evening meal looking out over the sea towards Rame Head and Looe Island, is Waves Bar.

Well there you go I mentioned three places to eat and not a Pasty in sight.

Oh and visit Trago Mills. Just be realy carefull what you buy, as they sell some great gifts and bargins and also some real tack, but it can be realy fun Aladins cave type place to shop.

Enough from me. Have fun. BuzyG

Did take the a303 on the way back, and incidentally stopped at a pub just off of it The Carriers in Stockton.

You can turn right at the roundabout before stone henge if its busy as go around the back route back on to the A303, alot quicker and the roads are more fun as well.

Just off of the A303 these places are good to see, Cheddar gorge is beautiful but it will be quite a bit out of your way.

-Longleat (don't take the Zed through the monkeys though)
-Stourhead (National Trust)
-Haynes Motor Museum
-Fleet Air Arm Museum
-Montacute house (National Trust)
-Barrington Court (National Trust)

Enjoy your trip SW England is a beautiful place and im sure you will have a great time.
