Hi, when i am driving at very low speeds, crawling in 1st or 2nd gear with my foot down on the acceleration... i hear a whine which i can only describe as the whine you would hear if you pushed a toy remote control car along the ground with your hand... (without using the remote control to move it)
- the sound is not very loud, but i can hear it when the radio is off
- i can only hear it in 1st and second gear
- the sound only occurs when the acceleration is pressed (not heard when coasting...)
Has anyone else experienced this...

Haven't got stones trapped in your tyre tread have you? That can cause some weird noises at low speeds.

No, thanks but it wouldn't be that as the sound is only heard when i press the acceleration... it sounds very normal but just not a sound i remember on my previous Z4

Yep, I get this too, behind me, but it's the kind of sound you hear on 'tuned/performance' cars - that almost electrical noise.
I like it, don't know what it's attributable too, but it sounds normal to me.
Maybe the diff?

On my 03 2.5i, I did get this noise after I had the diff oil changed, but it was about 200K when I had it done and figured that the diff was just getting OLD. Still ran ok, though.

I don't think it is the diff and my car has only done 9.5kCool Z4 wrote:On my 03 2.5i, I did get this noise after I had the diff oil changed, but it was about 200K when I had it done and figured that the diff was just getting OLD. Still ran ok, though.

Interesting though, as mine has only done 11-12k too.oo7ml wrote:I don't think it is the diff and my car has only done 9.5kCool Z4 wrote:On my 03 2.5i, I did get this noise after I had the diff oil changed, but it was about 200K when I had it done and figured that the diff was just getting OLD. Maybe it's a 'new' noise?
Would be interested to hear from anyone else mechanically-minded.

mine is the same.. can only hear it with the roof down, in crawling traffic.
Asked the garage about it last yr when it was in for some warranty work.. looked at it and said it was normal.

Yeah, i thought the sounds was normal... it doesn't sound mechanically wrong, it's actually quite a nice noise... i was just curious as it was not on my old Z4
