Dealership called, quality enhancement due!
Had a call earlier today from BMW (the dealership) saying that they want my car in to carry out a quality enhancement. Was a bit manic in office so i rushed the conversation but it is something to do with a grill around the rear bumper that may allow water ingress and affect electrics, it is being changed, i reminded them that i hadn't heard back about replacing the rear nearside lens cover as it has water in it, it was supposed to be done around christmas but in the snow the part didn't arrive, i have tried to get them to deal with it since but no joy as yet. Hopefully it will be done at the same time.
Anyway, has anyone else been contacted on this one?

Yes, I had a letter about it yesterday - they want to replace a rear vent seal that may otherwise leak and damage the electronic modules. I will get it done when I have a chance as it does not seem especially urgent. Now all I need to do is find out how to get them to update my software at the same time (for free) so that my idrive display stays down

Did the letter come from dealer or BMW UK? Is it just for 35i? As 35i has different rear bumper from 23i and 30i.MikeS wrote:Yes, I had a letter about it yesterday - they want to replace a rear vent seal that may otherwise leak and damage the electronic modules. I guess the dealerships may welcome some warranty work, i was surprised how soon they could provide a courtesy car although i daresay it'll be one of those horrendous 1 series; 4 tyres with a hunchback, yuk!

Yeah - sounds like the politically correct way of saying 'Recall' without admitting it's a recall.gookah wrote:quality enhancement? So thats the new way of describing a fault

Re: Dealership called, quality enhancement due!
No Ksher, different, i was told it was a problem with a vent and possible water ingress onto electrics, but it is around the rear bumper and will affect the boot area, not to do with safety belt.

Re: Dealership called, quality enhancement due!
I wonder if this was the cause of a mate's 1-series electric "issue". Car was parked up during several days of wet and windy weather: found the electronics modules in the boot area submerged lol. Luckily under warranty but I suspect the same could happen on a Z4...

Re: Dealership called, quality enhancement due!
I haven't received anything through the post yet, and mine is an early build (May 2009). It will be getting the first service in a couple of weeks so will ask them then if I don't hear anything.
As ksher mentions, the bumper on the 35i will be a different shape/design due to the left and right exhaust pipes...

ksher - I received the letter from my dealership - Vines of Gatwick - don't know if it applies to vehicles other than the 35i.

I have just phoned my local dealer. My 23i will go in next Tuesday too. The problem seems affecting all E89.Z4 Beemer wrote:I haven't received anything through the post yet, and mine is an early build (May 2009). You better check with your dealer.

Bugger! Thanks for checking this ksher.ksher wrote:

I'll mention when I book it in for its service in a couple of weeks. Can someone describe the actual name of the quality enhancement? Is it just something like "Installation of bumper vents to avoid possible water ingress onto electrics..."
