Kansas beige leather seat wear

Post by gypsyroadhog » Fri Dec 10, 2010 1:50 pm

Hi All.
I bought my new Z4 23i sdrive in April this year. I have the KANSAS BEIGE LEATHER seats fitted. I have only done 1300 miles (I know - I should get out more) and I noticed the seats looking a bit grubby. On closer inspection, the lower and middle back area look as if the colour is comming off leaving it looking dirty. Also the same on the 'sitting' area. I am really concerned after only 1300 miles - what's it going to look like after 50,000 or so miles. :o :|
I am taking it back under warranty to see what the dealer says.
Anyone else had this problem?
Bye for now
Stevie - boy

I have the same colour, it will be the colour transfer from your clothes, get some Autoglym leather cleaner or similar. I clean and condition mine about once a month, just be careful not to clean the stitching, I have done 20,000 miles since March and they still look good.

Just ignore the comment from Ksher, it wasn't very helpful :poke:

My black Kansas leather is much softer on the drivers seat that the passengers, but still in great condition.

I had Jade Gray in my 325i coupe (very light colour) and it did easily show dye from jeans, but as long as you keep conditioning and cleaning it every now and then it should be ok.

I have tried using Turtle Wax leather cleaner but it doesn't seem to do any good. I am a bit concerned about damaging the leather. :? :?

I use BMW own brand, which is good. Or try liquid leather stuff.

Should see our design White interior then FFS

Tbh though just use decent leather cleaner on seats as jeans tend to darken it. The alcantara is a pain on drivers shoulder due to black dirt from seat belt

I have the pure white package and after 24000 miles still looks good. Does need looking after as i am using every day and car is only just 12 months old. I use Gliptone leather cleaning product. I have bought most of my car care stuff from http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/ and have found them really helpful. There are useful 'how to's' on the site and i'm sure you'll find lots of useful info here on the forum about leather care.
As others have mentioned jeans are a problem particularly the rivets in them damage leather, also transfer off of wet clothes in the winter time. Just remember clean leather gently, don't scrub.

Re alcantara, there was a really good tip came up in another thread, use a clean pencil rubber gently to lift off the seatbelt transfer. I am tall so don't seem to suffer with this too much but a few people said it seemed to work.

Having only had the car less than two weeks I bought some leather wipes and just tested them on the pure white seats... oh my... I thought they were meant to look ivory.. they're not! lol.. the muck that came off them meant I used loads of wipes, well worth it though, they look even 'fabber' now ;)
