Hi folks,

I'm new to my Z4 but not to making my car my own so in preparation of installing the Proclip iPhone-TomTom mount - http://bit.ly/aZndg8 - I've add the the aux in - 65120153502, and a powered USB hub - http://bit.ly/aBoCEx, to a new blanking plate - 51459128397, so if it all goes wrong then I can put the old plate back and we're as good as new!

Ok, first I prepared the usb hub by removing the lid off the hub and drilling 4 holes around it, making sure that there is room inside the hub for the screw heads.

Then marked out the blanking plate to match the holes in the hub and drilled.

I attached the hub lid with 4 small nuts and bolts.

Image

Them remove the PSU socket in the hub as I want to power it through the blanking plate.

Image

Image

Then solder wires to where the PSU socket was connected.

Image

Also drilled holes for the Jack Socket, USB hub power cable and PSU switch - http://bit.ly/drQfNb.

Feed the cable through the hole and solder to a cigarette plug PSU - http://bit.ly/a3N0Kc.

Reattach USB hub to it's lid.

With a cigarette socket - http://bit.ly/9w56NY, fuse holder - http://bit.ly/bOhpfW, and 3amp fuse - http://bit.ly/9BFu58, connect them so the power from the car will go through the fuse, to the switch then the cigarette socket.

At this point the blanking plate is ready but before anything else test it by plugging in to the cigarette lighter power socket in the ash tray. There is a green LED in the hub which will light when powered.

Now you must remove the centre vents which for some people has been easy some difficult, for me.......? Really difficult!!

The only way I could get to the clips was to go MacGyver and use a paper clip like some other people have done, I even took a picture of what shape I made so others can use it.

Image

Once it's out remove the stereo via the 2 obvious screws and pull the stereo out (a bit stiff).

I then cut (BE REALLY CAREFUL!!! if you don't know what you're doing then disconnect the battery!!!) the power to the stereo and added my own wires to the new cigarette socket which I'm going to leave behind the dash.

Image

Image

Plug in the Aux in cable and thread this and the new power down through behind the stereo and push out the blanking plate to pull the wires through.

Once through connect the power to the fuse holder & ground on your new blanking plate.

Image

Connect your Aux jack socket to your blanking plate and then carefully put all the cables back in to the car behind the blanking plate.

Snap your new blanking plate in to place and re-test everything before putting the stereo and especially the centre vents back.

Image

If all is well then put everything back where it belongs (don't forget that your new AUX IN will have no EQ set on it)

Image

Enjoy!! I just need to buy the Proclip and iPhone - TomTom mount and we'll be all set!

Let me know if you need anymore information.

Cheers,
Col

p.s. I don't know why the new blanking plate came with a hole (I guess for a switch), the part number of the old and new are the same! :( not really bothered as I can't see the hole.

the aux will go through your headunit, the USB is just for power.
