Re: AUX DIY
Found a cheap cable that looks like it'll work for the job. Seems like over the years, the price on these things has dropped drastically. After all, seems like you're paying for a regular 3.5mm cable with a "proprietary" connector at the end.

Since the thread's been resurrected, figured I'd post this in case others are having the same difficulty I did with getting the center vents out: http://www.zpost.com/forums/showpost.ph ... stcount=12

Re: AUX DIY
I installed the cable I listed above and it works well when the car isn't turned on. When the car is turned on, there is a buzzing noise. It seems there is some grounding issues. Interestingly enough, when I put in the clutch it gets a little louder, and it also gets a little louder when I step on the gas pedal in my manual 2003 z4. Trying to see if I can relocate the wire to help with the issue, but anyone got any ideas?

Re: AUX DIY
Hello, I'm currently looking into getting myself an auxiliary input that allows me to retain the 6 CD changer functionality however most links take me to cables that can be purchased in USA or to tacky cheap looking things. I was wondering if anyone has an up to date link to an aux input to buy? (will buy from USA if there is none available in the UK). I have a 2004 Z4 3.0i if that is any help! Cheers in advance!
A few examples I have come across but can't find much info on are as follows:
Vague ebay one:

Potential aux input that looks similar to one mentioned at the start of this thread:

That's what I ordered, I installed it yesterday in around 10 minutes and works a treat.

Re: AUX DIY
Does that allow you to still use the 6 cd changer? If so, how?!hopz121 wrote:Look at this on eBay:

I bought this cable and I get no low end from it.hopz121 wrote:Look at this on eBay:

Anyone know what's up? CD and FM both get the subs going still (10 speaker system) but there's no bass from the Aux. Tried different 3.5mm cables and different input devices.
I think it's the right way up. The other way around brings no Aux mode up.

The bottom left is where I installed it. Weirdly taking out both bottom left and top left modules results in no noticeable lack of anything...

So taking this and the white one put does nothing it seems, but the aux in only works on the one, and that's without bass.

Re: AUX DIY
"If aux mode is available"
Aux mode is available on ALL headunits for ALL E85/E86 cars.
It's enabled by shorting the left aux in with the right aux in at a specific resistance.
in regards to a lack of bass, this is may be due to the cable not including capacitors in it's design (I don't know, and cant tell from the image)?
If it was in the wrong holes, it wouldn't produce AUX on the front (at least, if both the left and right audio channels were in the wrong holes.. )

Re: AUX DIY
looking at the pic of the back of your headunit, the pins are in the right places..
it's worth noting that there is definitely a lack of bass "as standard" via aux in, regardless of cable, but there shouldn't be NO bass..

Re: AUX DIY
By "if the AUX mode is available" I meant that without the caps the option isn't available normally - so was eliminating possibilies.
Lacking low end/bass is something which I have experienced where a jack doesn't go in all the way, but I doubt this is your problem. Looking at the photos all the cables correctly oriented, so might be worth trying another audio cable to your device, then I'd be trying a different cable to the radio.
