Headliner stuffing uneven?

Post by StudioWizard » Thu May 23, 2024 6:33 am

Hi folks

I noticed that my headliner toward the back window feels a little lumpy. Does the filling inside the headliner attach somehow and can it become detached and bunch up or is it just lumpy?

I'm also wondering if that's why my roof doesn't open and lock completely on the first try. I usually have to open it all the way, then reverse it about 6 inches, then close all the way again before it'll actually latch. Even then, I have to push it down another inch or so or else the button flashes red. FYI: I've tried "training" the canvas corners to fold outward instead of inward so it latches more easily, but the "training" isn't really holding.

I'm wondering if I open the headliner up, reattach the stuffing or insulation or whatever it is so it doesn't bunch up, maybe that'll make the roof close more easily.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Also, does your top open and latch with no problem or do you also have to push it down to latch it?

Thanks for your feedback!!

Headliner has a foam backing and after 20 year the foam starts to deteriorate.

Could that deterioration cause problems with opening all the way and locking? Does anyone know how to replace the interior foam backing or does the entire headliner need replacing?

Thanks!

Shouldn't cause any problems. Yes, you would have to replace the headliner.

Have you had to replace yours? If so, did you do it yourself?

Any ideas why the top doesn't retract all the way down and latch on the first try?

I've tried training the left and right "corners" of the canvas to fold outward, not inward, which has helped a little. But I still have to retract the top as far as it it'll go (usually stops 1-3 inches away from the latch), then I start closing it a little bit, then reverse again until it latches. I often have to do that 2 or 3 times before it'll go all the way down and latch like it's supposed to. It's like it's bunching up incorrectly or something... which is why I thought maybe the foam inside the headliner is causing the problem.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
