M40i or M2 Comp

Post by 9designs » Sun May 12, 2024 4:25 pm

I like both, can’t decide which I’d like to go for next.

Like the G29 more modern interior, I’ve been looking at the M2 style interior for last 5 years in wife’s 120D.

M2 Comp drove nice, steering felt good other day on a test drive. Drove a G29 last year, felt a bit numb, could a good geo set up improve that?

Don’t think G29 is the best looking Zed… M2 looks are good, unlike the new one…. I do like roof down sometimes…

Either is costing 30-35k ….

For me the G29, the roof comes down, I have gone from vert to Coupe on a few occasions and second day of sun, I think s--t I'm missing out and start looking for a vert.

Also in that range is an f83 M4 vert and would be a cracker at that spending level

What makes you happier, driving at ten tenths and daydreaming about being Chris Harris, or having the roof down?

If it's the former, get the M2. If it's the latter, get the Z4. Simple.

For 99.9% of the population, driving an M2 at ten tenths is a pipe dream that will only end badly. In fact they'll be lucky to get past eight tenths (and retain eight tenths of their body when they are finally let out of hospital. )
So, if you want to kid yourself you're driving at ten tenths, get the M2.
Get the roof down and enjoy the drive, you know it makes sense.

enuff_zed, Hey, driving the M40i at 9/10ths is definitely a pipe dream for me, I probably manage 6 to 7/10ths at best before I'm going so fast it's hard not to become a Tena lady

What about the Toyota Supra?

Coupe version of the Z4 and drives a bit better and is faster.

Toyota's 10 year warranty deal is a good incentive.

Don't think I'm planning on driving either at 9/10th.... but I do like some feel and feedback at lower levels of insanity.
I'd probably go GR86 rather than Supra...... but then I already have GR Yaris......

Wife has declared her preference in Zed, due to roof down option.

Think I will need to drive another and possible speak to someone like String Theory see what lessons have been learnt from the Supra and could they be put on the G29 for a bit more engaging drive.
If BMW did a M G29 this question would be needless !!!!!

Is the frozen paint finish a good or bad option? how do you polish it? :?

Exactly, my ten tenths comment was a tongue in cheek reference to the phrase being used in car reviews.

Driving any car at ten tenths on the road is a terrible idea.

An M2 is not comparable to a G29 IMO.

It's like saying 'I need new trainers....should I go to sports Direct, or Hush Puppies?'

The M2 is available with a manual gearbox, so that is the one. Simples.

I would have an M2 (manual only) tomorrow if it wasn't for the image. I'm about 30 years too old. Then again I'm 30 years too young for a G29!
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!

What about eleven tenths? Is that even possible (unless you are B21 of course. He's a pensioner so it's OK) :D

Probably the most succinct and sensible response in this thread.

Love that reply. As for the question. I know not which is best, but I would go for the proper two seater, not the taxi. :D

Thanks, a car with more than two seat = a taxi

I'd go for a manual M2 as it has a proper roof!
