Saw this rumour just now and started wondering, if S58 can go into supra, it can go into Z4. Then, if BMW makes a limited run of G29 in the last year of G29 production with the S58 under the bonnet (let's say, BMW calls it Z4 Final Edition, just like the first edition), how much you guys/girls will be willing to pay for it?

Just ain’t going to happen..they can’t sell the current G29..making a fringe event of a fringe product..financial suicide…..I’m still taking bets in how many manual versions will be sold in 2024… :poke: :tumbleweed:

I don't think they will use the S engine for the 'super' Supra, either. Too easy to just uprate the B58 to around 400bhp and 600nm.

I also don't recall (I may be wrong) BMW 'S' engines in anything but 'M' cars. They didn't even let Alpina use them AFAIK.

I said I was interested in knowing about manual uptake when asked about a month ago if they’d sold any. She said they hadn’t even had a enquiry but she’d ask the other dealerships in the group. When getting a follow up call was told she’d had a response, no enquiries. Was told again when picking up the new Zed last weekend that the entire group (5 dealerships) still haven’t had one enquiry re a manual. She did say she’d run the figures through and higher purchase price but lower PROJECTED residual at the end of three years. She said about £10 k in favour of the auto M40i overall after 3 years. She also said, which I agree with, the person buying a manual is because that’s the exact thing they want and will keep it for 20 yrs.

All just someone’s opinion but she does have access to accurate information.

The engine used in the Alpina roadster s and the e46 B3.3 is a bored out version of the S52B32 engine that BMW used for the e36 M3 over in North America.

I wonder how much of that is down to people not wanting a manual and how much of it is down to having green as the one and only colour choice available.

Doesn't seem much point just fitting the S58 unless you are going to do the rest of the M bits too.

Indeed, and that's down to BMW UK, not GmbH. In my teens, dad had a E23 728i, you got a BMW when you had kids and and there wasn't enough room in the Porsche, who were on their way to going broke. Today Porsche can do no wrong, are a money making phenomenon and BMW only want to design a desirable car for the Chinese market.

Quick question: -
1) Do BMW make any good looking cars?
2) Do Mercedes make any bad looking ones?

Heresy I know :fuelfire:

True BMW are not the best looking cars on the market but I prefer them over what Mercedes have because they are different and quite often they look better in person than in photos or videos e.g. I am liking the new M3 M4 especially the new M3 Touring, the 7 series, yes it's ugly but they look super imposing in real life and have huge presence on the road which the S Class does not, the X7 and the G29  but there are some models which I just wouldn't touch e.g. the new X2. Should also add that over the years BMW have had many models which are polarising but ahead of the time and get more appreciated later down the line.

Very possibly down to this Laine as I could have delayed and changed my order for a manual but didn’t want the frozen green paint. But also anyone financing, particularly PCP, would get the figures for comparison and according to her the figures didn’t reflect well

Argyll Andy, yes the Z4 has some lovely angles, but the front could be better if I'm honest.
Silverstar, I've seen a few new 7's and in the flesh they are even more hideous, imposing, only the grill is and not in a good way :sick2:
buzyg, 8 series, okay it's not fugly, but it aint no stunner either. G wagon, not argument there

It looks unlikely to happen but you can't rule this out completely.

So Sars, what’s your take on why they’re currently only offering the manual Zed in those Saturday night pavement spewed colours..? Seems too ridiculous to be true to me…, yet there it is, in reality…. :?
