E86 Coupe - can’t get rear discs off.

Post by chanlon1 » Sun Mar 24, 2024 5:28 pm

Replacing all the discs and pads.
Fronts have been okay.
Came to the rear and the disc just won’t come off.
Looks like the shoes inside are completely rusted to it rather than being attached to the hub.
Any suggestions. The handbrake is completely off in case anyone thought I still had it on.

Ok. So I got one side off after a battle, but it looks like I’ll have to replace the shoes etc.
Bit of delamination going on….Ive never replaced handbrake shoes before……

Further inspection shows that where the shoes are attached to the backing plate had rusted through, so ended up buying new plates also.

Which was exactly my problem which resulted in a £2200 bill

For the plate to come off, the bearings had to come out and the cable had to be replaced, which meant that the o2 sensor got fried when taking the cable out and on and on it went

With multiple blasts of penetrating fluid over a few days, and a hacked together socket set set up, I've been able to remove the 6 bolts that hold the plates on.
I'v bought new ones, and am going to do the cutting hack to get it to slip over the hub rather than take the hub off.
