Z4 coupes for £5000 and £5500

Post by raymond.harper » Mon Mar 11, 2024 7:31 am

There is a 2006 in Facebook for £5000, automatic with a new steering column. Seems too good to be true, not able to see the registration but may be worth a look.Either that or prices are not good at the moment It is near Norwich. The other one is in Telford for £5500 https://www.facebook.com/groups/2960956 ... 4654601766 – 2006 BMW Z4 Facebook.png[/attachment]

There is a fixer up in Scotland for £4500. I guess mileage is what harms prices.

I once paid £4k for an S2000, that same car would be worth closer to £15k, you could buy a 996 for under £10k a few years ago. While I don't fully subscribe to the theory that every coupe will be worth a fortune one day, I do think that they are at a low and will appreciate in the coming years.

The higher mileage stuff always hangs around. It’s a 50/50 in that if you get one that has been well maintained you can get a very good car for little money. On the flip side if you get one that needs a lot of love and you pay a garage to do the work, you can spend thousands and ultimately the car will be worth no more.

The one in Scotland looks terrible, if the body work is that bad what is the underneath like 😄

Agreed

Although I know Chris (Street) has a very high mileage coupe which is going strong so the strength of the coupe is good

I think they suit the buyer who can do the work themselves as the majority of the parts are not too expensive, but it is the labour that kills it when taken to a garage.

Looking closely at these they do look a bit leggy. You'll likely end up paying 3-5k sorting various issues to make them really tidy examples.

I wouldnt be worried about 133k miles on the car listed first at that price, if they have a history of good jobs done and a service history that engine will run for another 100k miles. As long as suspension is good, service history is good, things like water pump and gaskets done, you would be getting yourself a bargain in my view.

I very much doubt that at 133K miles you will be getting a bargain. If its been well maintained etc then it might be a reasonable buy but at that mileage you are always getting into last legs territory. If it hasnt had too many owners then it might be ok to take a gamble but why not just pay a bit more for a lower mileage example with perhaps less owners and less likelihood it hasnt been thrashed at some stage.
Generally speaking you get what you pay for in this world.

Project Spa is on 135k and it appears the cam bearing ledge has worn, which is a large bill even if you do it yourself.
So you do take a risk on the higher mileage cars: not due to poor engines but the maintenance, and quality of parts used, is an unknown quantity.

In the same way that undesirable 996s (autos, convertibles, poor colours) and E46 M3 Convertible SMGs are still cheap, I'd expect auto/SE Z4Cs to stay pretty cheap.

You may be right, although higher mileage ones can be a bargain as so many people seem to avoid them!

That looks lovely, rare interior colour. It’s a hard one as high milers can be a bargain, sadly from my experience they ended up costing more 🙈
