51487047808 Heat resistant plate

Post by SGRG » Fri Dec 15, 2023 4:26 pm

Hi Everyone,

Need your help again. I had custom exhaust installed May of last year and off the back of that it looks like my heat resistant plate didn’t get put back on. Now this could be for fitment issue after custom exhaust was installed which I am trying to clarify with the shop. In the mean time I am bit confused about the part. So according to realoem this is the part:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... 1487047808

So the confusion for me is that the right upper side triangular shaped seems to be different from what I had on my car:

What I had on my car:

Part available based on reference number from realoem:

What it looks like right now:

Not sure if I am missing something here?

Thanks in advance.

its an air duct to push air through the vanes on the diff.... id be unhappy with that being removed to put it politely. will it cause an issue? probably not but it their for air management to help keep a hardworking part cool. if you look at the first pic you can make out the two ducts are it kicks up to the diff cover vanes.

You picked the wrong item, is number 16 (51487896023) in that diagram. the one you chose is for the non-M

Side note who made your exhaust and what did it cost if you don't mind me asking? Looks smart!

Yeah not to pleased with it. I have contacted them albeit it’s been year and a bit since the work. Let’s see what they say, they are a good shop so hopefully they will get it sorted.

I entered my vin and got to that so it’s definitely a m part. Even part 16 doesn’t seem like is the full part. Maybe a combination of 16 and 6?

Company called Overkill Performance. They are very good at what they do: https://www.instagram.com/overkillperfo ... c2ODk2ZA==

Here is the sound with 8"x 5" oval box 12" long:

I did have the box switched out to 10" x 5" oval box 14" long due to horrible drone at 2K RPM. Now it’s so much better. So this is a valved system going from nice note to full screaming note.

Hey mate,

Just heard back from them saying it was left out for a reason. I am out of the country until new year so I can’t be sure if they returned this part to me. I have x pipe and two boxes but can’t recall getting the heat shield back.

How much are you looking for? Could you send me a picture and part number?

Thanks
