Ford Kuga 2.5 PHEV

I’m going to start by saying I’m not a fan of Ford at all, I had a number of very bad experiences when I had to deal with them in the past and I said I’d never have another one.

20 years later and my company car list is restricted to electric and PHEV. The PHEV choice (I can’t go electric only) was limited to around 9 cars :headbang:

Ordered a Kuga ST Line 2.5 PHEV and it arrived a week and a half ago. I couldn’t add any nice extras as this pushed the car from the 8% to 13% BIC tax bracket, so it was an exercise in getting a big enough car at low tax cost that still had and ICE fitted.

I was expecting to absolutely hate it, but it’s really rather good in lots of ways. Even without plugging in it does about 52MPG, which isn’t bad for a car of its size. It’s much nicer to drive than the Prius that went back, and it can be almost ‘fun’ in sport mode :driving:

I’ll probably enjoy it until A) something breaks, B) I have to take it in for a service

ST Line version sounds a lot of fun. Got a bit of a soft spot for the Mk1 Kuga's. From the outside I thought they always looked like a very well designed car. Alas, I despise Ford interior switchgear, so would never get one myself, but maybe they've changed

I had a such a limited choice, it was genuinely the best option available. The ‘OK’ button that you have to press numerous times every journey to clear messages is small and doesn’t t feel like it’s going to survive the lease period tbh

It’s 225ps (combined ICE & Electric) - so it’s no rocket ship, but it handles better than you might think and it’s decently punchy in the mid range.

Don't press it.
See what happens when it's full.

Half the display is hidden for about 30 seconds and then the messages go anyway, but it’s not ideal to not be sure fast you’re going for half a minute
