I received a letter from the parking company today cancelling the fine. No apology, but a happy outcome. :D

It seems that the pub landlord realised that the adverse publicity he was getting and loss of trade from disgruntled customers forced him to take action against the company, Civil Enforcement.
Glad to hear this, common sense prevails at last

Great result 🙂 but what a great way to put customers off in the first place ☹️ hopefully lesson learnt.

Has the parking company been removed or just the fine cancelled? For breach of contract I bet the pub still has to pay that awful company, but then if you go with the devil to nee you can expect that

It's my understanding that the company have been removed and all outstanding fines cancelled. IDK what arrangements the pub have made with the company, the cameras and signs are still present but I'm told that the cameras have been disconnected. The pub has made an announcement to this effect on Facebook (which is fine if you use Facebook!).

There’s a small hotel with a public bar near to us and when they introduced this login system, they had very visible signs on the entrance door and the staff asked “have you logged in your reg number”.

What a faff just for a quick pint at the bar - I don’t bother with the place now!

Don’t blame you, makes it seem less friendly.

And you have signs that if you make a mistake, you will get ‘fined’. Not very customer friendly

I can appreciate that some pub car parks are abused at times - there’s a local that’s near to a fishing and walking area on the river Wear. The car park is often used by non customers.

Seems its all about making money and squeezing every last penny out of people. I can understand businesses wanting to protect their parking for its customers but really who wants to faff around logging their car details when all you want is an evening out, and if as in this case you forget or hadn't realised you then have to go through all that faff trying prove and reverse a fine.

If it was in walking distance I would still go, don't need car but anywhere that charges could be made would put me right off

It does yes. I visited a hotel and had to fill in the details at the receiption (was just for a meeting), but I did not like the signs what so ever that any mistake or failure for the system to register, will result in a charge.

I told them I did not want to have a meeting in that hotel again.

I have some sympathy for the pub landlord, it is his first summer at the pub. There is another riverside pub just opposite and at busy times patrons at the other pub were treating his car park as on overflow facility without buying anything. He was rightly infuriated and put the system in place, not realising the negative impact on his trade and goodwill.

He has been very apologetic and acted swiftly to rectify things, to good effect. :)
