PH - Jay Kay’s Z4M Coupe for sale

Post by BMWZ4MC » Mon Sep 11, 2023 4:26 am

As usual, a write up by someone who has probably never driven a Z4 of any kind!
The price is not completely ridiculous for such a low mileage car (ignoring the celebrity factor which adds nothing from my perspective). I wonder what it will sell for:

I wonder how often it has been serviced since 2009.

Looks in great condition.

Tbh the PH article annoyed me. Appreciating that opinions are like A holes, everyone’s got one….But I do question why the Z4M is so divisive? Clearly I’m biased given I’m an owner but to me it has far more going for it than against it.
For some reason I expected more from PH readers, more fool me.

I'm biased too, but I wouldn't pay that much for one that had hardly been used.

Regardless of dubious previous "celebrity" ownership it would bleed depreciation every time you put some miles on it. And Ruby Black is a PITA to keep clean!

It surprised me how many former Z4M owners slated the car. I’ve had mine a long time and it’s very far from stock, but even when it was completely OEM the handling was no different from any other short-wheel base RWD car.
Mine was almost new when I bought it in 2009, so I suspect that those who describe an unpredictable car with wayward handling had much older cars with worn suspension components (especially RTABs).
Of all the commentary, that from Fishy Dave stands out as having value whilst being unbiased. Most of the negative posts were unsubstantiated by the authors and gave the impression that a hand-fisted driver may be at least part of the problem!

I am a new owner. (Feb 2023) and am definitely biased. Formerly always Porsche but I always wanted one and finally got my Z4MC. I also have a 2006 997S, a 69 911S, a 1988 Peugeot 205 GTi and a 2012 1M and the Z4MC is by far one of the best cars I’ve ever had.

(If you’re into that sort of thing, it’s way faster than my 997 and the Boxtser and Cayman S’s I’ve owned in the past. It has far more character than the 1M, and in my opinion looks better.)

All the naysayers just mimic what they hear on Top Gear and probably don’t have the skills to challenge any car (BTW unless one does track driving, any opinions about handling on public roads are moot).

I like the fact that many don’t know what the Z4M is and underestimate them.

Finally, I always buy cars that have been USED REGULARLY and LOVED.

🌞🙏🏽

Yes, that's a great fleet.

And it's good to know how highly you rate your MC compared to your Porsches. Makes me more pleased with having chosen an MC. :D

£42k for a car and the top doesn't even come down?????

Why would you want to buy a car from someone with obvious no taste? :poke:

Makes more sense to buy from someone who isn't suffering from a sunburnt head and general sweatiness!

Also having owned a 996 4s and access to 997 CS and 991 CS and also owning 2 Z4Ms the Z4M is epic for value but it absolutely is not better than a 911 package. The 911 is better in pretty much all aspects but it's 2-3 times the price currently depending what you buy. When you add that to the scenario the Z4M is a better car for £ but putting one against another with cost removed the Z4M is certainly not a better car.

Appreciably there are personal reasons for liking one over another and I still have a Z4M so it speaks volumes but the 911 is such a great package all round for luxury, sports car prowess, handling etc the Z4M falls down in quite a few of those areas. On paper they look similar but the 911 is far more predictable easier to drive quickly and is a nicer place to be.

That being said the axe murder element of the Z4M is why I love them but most see that as the main flaw of the car.

I would have a 911 with a Z4m as a 2 car garage but the ludicrous pricing of porches these day just makes me not want one whereas the Z4M in both roadster and coupe have pretty much stayed the same price for the last 10 years with very little appreciation or deprecation. Its only the very top and bottom of the market where you have big price differences.

Cool breeze wafting through the car with the top down, the option of air con still available if required, not to mention stylish headgear.

Still, that doesn't compare to some to a metal lid and the window wound down :D :poke:
