Tyres- recommendations needed!

Post by Fresno82 » Sun Sep 03, 2023 4:03 pm

Hi all,
I'm looking to treat my 35is get a new set of tyres all round and get laser tracking and alignment at the same time.
When I bought the car a couple of years ago, I know pilot sports were the way to go but am keen to hear recommendations of the best tyres available on the market now. Budget not so much of an issue, I'm looking for the best handling and ride possible from my zed.

Secondly, I'm based in the north west so please let me know if there are any recommended specialists for fitting and alignment.

Thanks in advance!

I like the pilot sport 4S (similar to bmw fitment), others like the conti sport 7. Both are standard tyres with air in.

That's the 2 best options out there right now if money no object.

If you are running Bridgestone concrete filled run flats, I can't help.

Cheaper & less good options available to suit every pocket.

Never had an issue with the PS4S that are fitted to my 35is. My previous 35i had Veredstine Ultrac Vortis ( or something like that) and they were phenomenal in wet and dry.

Depends what size rims you have ?

In 19” then Sports Contact 7 are top dog..
In 18” Goodyear Assy 6
MPS4 now a worthy third…

On my second set about to go my third set of SC7s

Tried to two sets of MP4S and one set of GY Assy 5
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Pressure makes a massive difference too. I run 33front 36 rear on both my 18’s and 19’s with good results. I tried a higher psi as recommended by my tyre fitter but it felt really sketchy at speed so dropped to my tried and tested.

Remember MPS4 is the cheaper budget option - MPS4S is the high spec version.

Don't think they are available in sizes smaller than 19"

Thanks for the responses!

So my next question is what is the 'best' dimension of tyre for the 35is (running on 19s)The car came to me with sport contact 6s in the dimensions:
235/35R19 On the front
265/30R19 On the rear

But from doing some searching on here, the OEM dimensions were 225/35R19 front and 255/30R19 rear but there seems to be a preference for changing to the dimensions on mine currently. Is this just down to a wider tyre giving better handling, or some other reason? I'm happy to get whatever gives the best handling and ride but the non-oem sizes are proving awkward to find!

To an extent it depends on how wide the alloy wheel..what lloys are fitted?

Thanks everyone! I've got some aftermarket alloys so that explains the different tyre width needed. I've ordered four Michelin PS4S tyres with alignment and fitting at ATS Euromaster which came out well rated and cheaper than Costco thanks to a deal and discount code.
