An F-Type ...?

Post by Busterboo » Sat Sep 02, 2023 1:50 pm

Because the wife wants another Jaguar, I went to Sturgess, the local AD, today ... or so I thought. "As you know, sir, we're 'Marshall' now."
I said I didn't.

The forecourt was full of SUVs with not a 'sports car' in sight, so I took a deep breath, went into the the showroom and pointed this out to 'the suit'.
"Yes, sir, we have only two F-Types ... one new, one second-hand" and, here we go again, "As you know, sir, they're phasing the F-Type out at the end of the year."
I said that I didn't and added, "So what are they replacing it with, then?"
"Oh, something electric," he replied.

So now, the big question, I suppose. Should I buy an out-of-production 5-litre V8 or 'something electric'?

100% buy a petrol V8!

If you have any petrol running through your veins you’ll kick yourself in years to come that you didn’t, as cars go electric there will be less and less choice, that’s my theory at least…it’s not my money 😊

My “car mates” all have 2 seater somethings, one of them has a 400 Sport and have to say it’s a stunner.
E89 20i ish M Sport

Don’t mind me, I just have a lot of senior moments, also known for the odd social hand grenade too.

This is information that you can get in the news, even Autocar somewhat got it right, but as I work on the "something electric" I can guarantee you one thing: If you are in the market for an F-Type the "something electric" will not satisfy you: we're talking massive GT-Saloon priced at 100k and up...

What I can also say is that I had the pleasure to the F-Type 75R Coupe in the flesh last week and it is gorgeous
Gone - Ford Ka MK2 Petrol - Black
Will hang around to carry materials/people and in emergency - Ford Fiesta MK7 1.0 Ecoboost - Black, white rally rims, white decals, remapped
Now - Z4 Coupe - Montego Blue: Here

To be honest so is anything with a big heavy, lazy V8! :D

Does depend on your individual meaning of 'sports car' I suppose! :)

BTW every dealership I have had the misfortune to have dealings with owned by 'Marshalls' have been utter 'vankers' (second only to Shytners). But I am not a fan of the retail motor trade period (or estate agents).

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

Sports cars aren't about more room or practicality though are they!

At least mine doesn't look like it has had the MaxPower treatment.

And anyway I thought you were currently planning to sell it to get a less spacious, less practical Z3?

Ah yes, indeed! I am currently looking for a good 2.8 or 3.0 Z3! :o
even though I think the Z3 is probably one of the ugliest cars on the planet!

But I have a master plan!

I’d be shifting rainbows if I had something electric for the price of my 35is. But all the electric roadsters/sportscars are massively expensive. At least here.
2016 35is, monoballs, camber plates, KWV3, PS4S, xHP, MHD, LFB pedal, flat bottom wheel, red indicators, black headlamps

The F Type has never been a big seller, for the same money you can buy a 911 so not many choose the Jag, it’s not especially practical either. I did have the pleasure of driving the 570hp AWD FType round the test track a couple of weeks ago, awesome, but I’m not going to spend £100k plus when I can have just as much fun in my E85 for £5k
If wifey wants a Jag I suggest the 3.0 V6 is a good choice
So decide what you want, if it’s a cheap fun car a nice E85 or E89 fits the bill, more to spend a Boxter or a G29 after that with £25k plus a 911 for the sports car or an Aston Martin if you want to be flash
