Heathrow parking

Post by MikeyH » Mon Jul 24, 2023 3:49 pm

Drove up from Newton Abbot to Heathrow yesterday to pick up my son from his Japan flight, took me 15 mins of driving around the car park to find a space after getting my ticket. Then I waited 1hr 15 mins for him to get through customs and baggage due to a baggage handlers strike, only took 15 mins last time. Parking cost me £16.00 instead of £6.00 for half an hour. It seems to me that the airport is on to a financial winner here and will hang out negotiations as long as they can. :headbang:
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

Feck me Mikey. You don't hang around!
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

i think previously when my in-laws have picked us up from heathrow, they waited with a coffee in Beaconsfield services. Then when we were through security and had picked up our bags, we gave them a call to come get us. 15 mins later we met them in the car park and were on our way.

I mistakenly paid for congestion Zone last year when we picked Edd up from Heathrow. Another £12 quid on top of parking fees. :headbang:

He is over again this year. We let him to drive him self to Cornwall this time. He earns more than his old dad these days.

The last couple of times I've picked people up from Heathrow I've found somewhere near the airport to wait until they phone me after they have collected baggage and cleared Customs, then I drive in to pick them up.

I've never liked paying to park!

I use the long term parking, is free for 30 minutes and they can take the bus from the terminal directly to the long stay parking.

I do the same to get collected, bus from terminal which takes 2 minutes and I call whoever to collect me when I have my luggage. Works perfectly and is fully free

Yes sounds like a good plan now that it seems to be taking so long, next time I will wait in the services up the road and he can give me a phone call when he is ready. Thank you all for your input.

Are you able to pick up without going in the car park then?

Last time I picked my sister up from T3 she met me at the drop off point and I didn't have to pay, but that was in February 2020!

Long stay is free for 30 mins so you pull a ticket and drive out inserting it again, 0 charge

Dropping passengers off means they take the shuttle for the last bit

Don't wish to brag but I park for free at Heathrow and Gatport Airwick.
Working for two major airlines does come with it's compensations. "it's not what you know, it's who".

Unfortunately they don't fly out of stansted which is our 'go to' airport. :(
