Electric car

Post by ronk » Sat Jul 08, 2023 2:38 pm

I had a ride in Tesla 3 yesterday for the first time and although I am far from ready to go electric yet, I have to say that the acceleration was astonishing to put it mildly!

I think it must’ve been the the fastest accelerating car I’ve been in - no build up pace - just Whoosh and ya off!

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

I was looking at an i3 at my local dealer last month, BMW have stopped making them now, however I was more interested in how its made than it being electric, carbon fibre tub and plastic panels and that. Shame they've stopped making it now as I still think it's one the best small electric cars.

I do like Hyundais Ioniq 6 but cost to buy I still think is eye-watering for what they offer.

Only way I would be tempted is vast drop in new cost.

Tim.

When I got mine, I expected it to be quick. What I didn’t expect is just how well it handles, for what is a family sized car with a load of practicality. Far more chuckable than I’d ever have imagined! The learning curve with the handling was more me getting used to all wheel drive; accelerating through a corner confidently.

I’m well impressed, 20k in it now. I’m fortunate to have the Z in the garage for a petrol and mechanical fix, but I must admit it doesn’t get much use!

A golf cart that knocks my 35is into a cocked hat!
100mph in just over 8secs - nippy!

But I’m not ready to make the leap just yet either.

Just bought SWMBO a DS3 Crossback e-tense, she drives mostly around town, has an official range of 212 so prob 160 in reality.

Switching to Octopus intelligent so £3 to charge the car - whereas her petrol one did 40mpg so around £24 for the same distance, no brainer in reality plus can use the nighttime rate to run the household stuff such as washing machine etc.

Car is ok, no difference in her old one with the same kit etc.

Me, I cant see me switching out any time soon but I do like the Kia Ev6
M4 Vert in Yas Marina Blue
2011 23i M Sport Highline in Alpine White with Smart Top installed - Gone but not forgotten.

The Tesla is way too American for me and I don’t like the looks, however the German offerings by VW and BMW are rather nice.

I do like that whilst working on the Z today, the electric car was fully charged ready for use again without having to leave the house.

Everything else aside, it was the neck snapping acceleration that got me - absolutely stunning -I just was not expecting it,
The torque was instantaneous. Bang wallop max oomph and off you go.
I can only wonder at how harsh the acceleration is on the performance version with the wicks turned up!

I will sort a neck brace before I try!

I wouldn't have 'range anxiety' at least, would I?

Hate them. Cars need a soul, and that’s the engine. Yeah they accelerate fast, but that gets boring pretty quick, and then they’re just dull dull dull.

Spend all this money developing synthetic fuels and keep the ICE.

We've gone over to the dark side, I no not a porsche. Some quick fag packet maths says it'll save around £1300/£1500 a year on the wife's commute.
