2.0i running rich.

Post by could be worse » Sat Jan 22, 2022 9:53 pm

Hi all,
l have good reason to believe that my little one is running a tad rich. Air filter and plugs have been renewed.
l suspect it is to do with the lamda sensors. l bought a C310+ multi scanner ( which in my case is a little like giving a chimp a piano
accordion ) which showed " sensor 1 with figures " , dunno what those meant either, and " 2 with a zero " which seemed fairly obvious.
The poor little thing has had a rough time of late and i want to do my best for her.
My 944S2 was a he but this is definitely a she.
Any help would be very welcome.

Have you inspected the inlet ducting to the engine, if it splits it can cause rich running.

Hi ya I'm assuming its throwing up some codes.
If you could provide those that would help..

2.0 l are a little high maintenance,I speak from experience..as I've got one.
Glorious when they run correctly, bit a little high maintenance.

I had a similar issue .with it over fuelling.
I rectified my issue by cleaning the MAF ..

Sorry mate, l haven`t got around to it yet. On my days off, as a divorced 70 year old, l am busy enjoying female company.
After a day out today from Cricklewood back to Luton ( somebody has to live there ) the amber oil can light on the dash was on after shut down.
Gave it a minute or two and ran it again. No warning light. She had an oil change less than 200 miles ago.
No oil leaks and no blue smoke. With no dipstick the only safe thing l can do is drain the oil and measure the quantity 4.3 lts.
Was that one of your problems ?

Why can’t you check the oil level via idrive / electronically ?

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

My feeling is that if the sender is at fault enough to illuminate the oil can may l trust the electronics enough to believe the shown bars ?

PS. now it`s back on the road again ( bodywork sorted by Harris Coachbuilders ) it drives better than it did before. The hundred quid
for laser alignment stopped the bump steer and tramlining l was having before.

I think my priority would be getting the oil level measuring System sorted

ronk.
Look, l am seventy years of age.
I have built 1275 Cooper S engines from scratch. I have had people who should know what they are selling come to me to ask for advice.
The original 997 engine had a peg drive oil pump camshaft. 3/8 inch cam lobes with 37 degrees valve overlap. 2A948.
Went into the MG 1100.
For the Cooper 998 the same profile was used but the cam now had half inch lobes and a star drive for the oil pump.
Its new part number was 88G229.
Now, with the greatest of respect Sir, if you don`t know what you are talking about please don`t waste my time.
But l do thank you for your interest.

:?
ronk, I can see what you are saying. By whatever means find out if you have an oil consumption issue, or merely an indication issue. If that involves draining and measuring, all well and good. But without doing that you will never know.
I'm sure that after could be worse has stopped firing off random posts in the wee small hours of the morning he will (hopefully) understand you were trying to help and an apology will be forthcoming.
Look on the bright side though.......................could be worse.

It could indeed be worse enuff.

£500 for a brake refit then the car failed the mot.
Dodgy offside front lower suspension arm. Fail.
Three suspension coils corroded. Oil leak. Misfire. Emits blue smoke on acceleration.
Got a feeling that the crankcase breather may be at fault. Quoted £600 to replace.
I think I`m close to despairing.
But, ...............it could be worse.
