Flat laquer. Best cutting compound to use?

My bootlids paint has gone as flat as a pancake. It's been on the job card for way too long now and I need to address it.

Got a D/A sorted, 1000W 150mm variable speed but need to choose the best heavy cutting compound.
Was thinking of Megs 105?
Then a polish with Megs Ultimate.
Anything better for flat paint revival?

Yes, the ultimate compound is great, and as far as the correction stage goes, could be all you need. If you want to go further you could refine with 205 or Menzerna final finish 3000. Remember to seal/protect it after, as your polishing leaves no protection.

Fair old way from Cloggy-land tbh. And even if you got his bonnet looking perfect, he'd still be stuck with his 'flat' bootlid.

Thanks buddy, kind offer but yes, unfortunately I’m across the channel in NL, so not so close to you.
I should be taking delivery of some bits and pieces to have a crack it myself soon....
Ordered some megs ultimate compound and polish.

Wasn't quite expecting the results to be so good but I'm quite chuffed how my absolutely minging bootlid has turned out!

I thought I might have to resort to 2000grit for the first stage but I went straight in with a hexlogic orange pad. 2 passes with megs ultimate compound then 2 passes with the polish and a final layer of Harley wax.

Just need to get the rest of the car sorted now...

Got the bonnet done today. Got a nice mirror finish after finishing up with a layer of Harley wax. That stuff and the Megs is fekin amazin!

I thought I might have to resort to 2000grit for the first stage but I went straight in with a hexlogic orange pad. 2 passes with megs ultimate compound then 2 passes with the polish and a final layer of Harley wax.

Just need to get the rest of the car sorted now...

Of course Johnny. That's a bit of a 'given' though isn't it?
I used my trusty old Bilt Hamber blue claybar and just soapy demineralised water in a spraybottle. Does just as well as the ridiculously overpriced 'claybar lubricant' sprays.

I was also using a 50/50 mix of demin water and alcohol to wipe down every so often as there's a cherry tree close to where I was buffing that seems to be shedding an obnoxious amount of dust and dead leaves at the moment. Outrageous.

Try a clay mitt squire, so much easier than a bar and much quicker too boot. You can get a much better feel of how it’s going with a mitt too.
