Vredestein Ultrac Sassanta

Post by daz05 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 10:04 pm

Guys,

Who can recommend the Ultracs for my CSLs on the M? 235/35/R19 and 265/30/R19 from Camskill is 120.70 and 149.40 respectively.

Beedub, I know you tried these are they any good?

Thanks in advance

Me and Andy both use Ulracs. They're the dogs. I got mine in Glasgow but camskill where a little cheaper. I chose to use my usual supplier rather than just to get them to fit them.

Your sizes are what i have - standard CSL m3 sizes. There's a lot of debate on other sizes but i reckon original is best. Maybe if you did a lot of track work you might want to create a front or rear bias with differing sizes but for most of us, why meddle?
2007 z4mc carbon black - gone but not forgotten. The guy I sold to still has it, maybe one day I will buy it back.
Now - Maserati Gransport with many mods. Sounds incredible.

Has anyone actually used both these and say PS2s (which seem to be the accepted "ultimate" road tyre?), and used them in anger and at the limit, on a track etc. I can find and have heard opinions from people who have used each tyre, but not both, to draw an honest and accurate comparison....

I'm tempted to give the Ultracs a go, but I've been bitten in the past where people have claimed certain tyres were "amazing" on previous cars, but when tried and were actually pushed and driven hard, they were a load of :!: . Ideally I'd want to know from someone that has taken their car to the track at least, rather than venturing no further than the highstreet and a few traffic-light GPs to determine the performance of a tyre (that's not aimed at anyone on here btw!).

I've used them before (not on the Z) brilliant in the dry, not so good in the wet, made of cheese but they come with more tread than I've ever seen any other tyre so should last.

Thanks guys, other option is the goodyear eagle F1s which are coming in at a slightly higher price. I know a few of you run those so any advice on either is fine.

My wheels are getting refurbed at the moment hope to have it all sorted by next weekend :)

Hi Daz,

I had the Vred's when I had the RX8....

I found them to be a fantastic unpgrade from the standard tyres.

They were very grippy in the dry and just as grippy in the wet!

The only downside I found with them was they seemed to have a little more give in the sidewall and the turn in wasnt as sharp as with the RE040's...

No idea what they would be like in these sizes on the CSL's tho....

I'm on F1's with CSL's just now. Had PS2's on the standard wheels and on the road I could tell no difference.

On track at the limit may be a different story but I'm rarely likely to find that out.

Next tyres will be more Eagles or Vredestein's.

That's pretty cheap tyres. Is that not practically half price of say Pzero Neros or F1s?
Sounds too good to be true!

Gareth,

They are the prices on Camskills website. They are not fitted prices tyres only.

Paid £530 for a set of 4 on my OEM 18s, love them, tonnes more confidence in the wet, they were leagues ahead of the Contis (as most seem to be).

I've done track days on them but never tried the PS2s so can't compare, but tbh they are so damn good in the wet that I'd keep using them whatever, as it's a lot more important to me to be grippy on a wet country b-road than the minimal amount of track days i go on.

andy - you're welcome to drive mine to compare.. but i might try and borrow yours too 8)

Try Ronnie at Wheels Around.

An update, had the Vreds fitted on Friday to some 19" CSLs. Did a 250 mle round trip this weekend and they were very good in comparison to the Stock Continetals. Went for 235/35 and 265/30.

Noise - No difference
Ride - No difference
Grip - Improved, noticeable at the front, but then the tyres are wider
Wet performance - No experience yet :)
Track - No experience yet :(
Price - Great value

It's the wet you'll really start to enjoy.

Tread pattern is pretty cool too, don't you think ? 8) (hence the designed by Guigario logo )

Andy, you are correct I forgot about the tread pattern it looks awesome.

Question - Have I lost the tyre pressure monitor thing now I got all new valves with the new tyres and forgot about the old ones?

Nope.. all UK ones use the ABS sensors to detect rotational speed differences, implying lower pressure IIRC.

Was it the American ones that got new valve sensors after 07 ?

If you have your own pump at home I'd have to let it down a bit and test..
