There is no connection between alloy and tyre brand in the terms of fitment.
PS4S - great tyres. 2 years on my previous 3.0si and I cannot say anything bad about them.

Thanks Panta Rhei - probably will go for the Michelin PS4 or 5 - Michelin’s have served me well in the past.

This is a great thread - loads of useful info. I'm another newbie, having just a week ago picked up my 58 plate z4 E86 Coupe. Before I bought the car I noticed that the MOT in May 2022 had advisories for all 4 tyres, perished and cracked sidewalls. I made a point of this to the dealer and eventually got them to knock some money off (£500) so I could put on new tyres all round. I've really no idea how the tyres got through the MOT at all and upon closer inspection I discovered they were the original Bridgestone runflats. I checked the DOT markings which gave the manufacture date as 4307. Wondering if I hold the "not to be proud" record for having the oldest tyres on a z4 Coupe. So now I've got the car that's top of my to do list, to replace the tyres. The runflats really do spoil the driving experience and as many others have said it is like driving on tram lines.
The car is really being used as a weekend driver, not a track day car, but likely to enjoy some spirited driving. Any callouts for tyres, appreciate it's really down to personal choice. I guess the obvious answer is don't get run flats  Was thinking of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 5/6 or Continental Sport/premium contacts. Nothing can be worse than what's currently on the car Anything else worth considering?

Cheers.......

So I got my tyres replaced at the weekend on my recently purchased z4 E86. Went for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 6 in the end. WOW what a difference to drive on from the original Bridgestone Runflats - vastly improved driving experience!

Although 108s would have had 225/40 x 18 fronts and 255/35 x 18 rears, but 224s on an M would have had 225/45 fronts and 255/40 rears.

I'll go check the tyres just in case. I bought them 2 years ago and sized them up a profile for comfort, they have been sitting in the garage because of COVID. My local tyre guy ended up going bust he was a one man band. They are supposed to be getting fitted next week but originally were going to go on 108's but I managed to get a hold of 224's so need to go on them now as the 224's are bald.

okay just to complicate things

I have 215/45 R18 (fronts) and 245 40 R18 (rears)

Will these fit on 224's? or will I need to put them on the 108's?

It's a 3.0 with M sport suspension.

I don't know for sure, but according to this website they should be OK:- https://www.tyresizecalculator.com/char ... -tire-size

They may look a bit stretched on 224s though.

Nice looking car. Thanks for confirmation. Could I go even higher profile next time around or is this the max on both front and rear?

You possibly could - I have 224s on my car with 255/45 tyres on the rear, but Ms are designed for 224s which have a different offset especially on the rear.

I'll ask the tyre fitters when I am there next week and see what they think. I will need to do a full rear suspension refresh next year anyway. The springs are okay I think the shocks are likely gone.

I found this thread so informative and helpful. I’m looking for the right tyres to replace my run flats after only just discovering I have them. I realise it’s actually a big decision due to performance, enjoyment and importantly, cost!
