Had a call from RAC who are doing the install for me.
All confirmed for Friday, but they did advise me that on BMW after 2021, parking mode can trigger a battery drain warning on the car if left parked for a few days. This also depends on the camera settings and voltage cut off point.
Did they offer to put in an additional battery protection device to cut off at a certain voltage?

No, the camera I ordered has that built in and you adjust the cutoff on the app.

For me it’s all irrelevant. Reality is that I will set the camera to 5-6 hours of motion detection in park mode. The car can be parked for days at a time in my off street parking so even a backup battery wouldn’t cover that. However 5-6 hours when I go out for an evening would be more than enough.

You could install a battery which will give 48 hours of parking mode recording, but I really don’t see the point in that with my driving habits.

So finally had the dashcam installed. Quite happy with it so far except they have wired it wrong so parking mode doesn’t work. Guess they will come back for that!

Also, I’ll have to get some blackout tape for the LED lights as they will bother me!

Was too dark to take pictures, but I’ll post some tomorrow.

Are all the wires hidden and where did you purchase from?

All wires hidden. Although they wired it up wrong.

    I ordered from the RAC.

I'd be asking for the cost of fitting to be refunded as well as putting it right. The whole reason for using them was for the install and they’ve managed to bugger up a simple connection.

So a 50/50 chance of getting it right first time.
Have they refunded the cost of bodging, sorry, fitting?

They've fixed the error, why would they refund as well?

Because ori did not receive the service he paid for and had to arrange another visit. The whole point of buying from the RAC was the fitting, which they made a balls of.

At the second attempt, what part of that don't you get is poor customer service?

I have been looking at this post with interest. I have not got a reversing cam on my car. If I bought a dash cam and a reversing cam could the two be married up in some way. :)

With time and skills it probably could be done and would come with a price tag, but mixing the two could be pointless - you’d end up with video footage of a vandal’s shoes :P . I’d take the easy route and pick a dash cam with a rear camera included. A front facing Viofo A119 is £100ish, a A129 duo with rear camera £200.
