Critical safety recall
Haha. Love that; yeeeeaaah it’s probably fine mate, just see how it goes!Wyldie85 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 10:41 am Booked in for the 17th as the next available appointment.
I asked about the safety of it and whether I can use it. I was told that unless I notice any changes in the steering then it’s ‘probably fine to drive’. Or, if I do notice anything untoward then BMW will come and take it away as unsafe...
Didn’t seem overly concerned. No car available for me on the day and it’s an all day job. No mention of the £15.00 sanitise charge this time either. Which is good because I won’t be paying that.
Which dealership do you use? Barons or Vines?
The 17th is an age away!!
Has anyone actually been told specifically what “0032140300” which is the reference from the BMW Recall Info page when entering vehicle details actually relates to.
I know earlier in the thread someone mentioned QE 10032140300 links to the Track Rod ends... where has this info come from?

Critical safety recall
‘Blake’ at Vines who booked me in... didn’t know part availability. I had to ask and prompt him about whether the car was safe to drive or whether I should be.
Given the extensive info about ‘see how it feels’ then I shall keep an eye on it. I can’t say I’d noticed anything untoward of late but I’ve only driven it home from the dealers after the software update debacle and it hasn’t been anywhere since.

Surely they can't just keep your car and say you can't have it back until it's fixed. Even more frustrating when they don't even have the parts available and can't supply you atleast a like for like car. They are giving you a completely different car to a Z4 with less power. I'd say keep nagging away at them and keep complaining, you might even get something better!
It just seems wrong that someone can suddenly turn around and say you can't have your car back, regardless of the nature of the recall. It's your personal property so you have the freedom to do whatever you like with it. Obviously common sense plays a part too, if it's a threat to life, then you should atleast be able to get it recovered back to your home...
Just seems wrong to be refused of your own belongings...

But, as devil's advocate:
If they gave it back to you, then something failed and you wrapped it round a tree, you'd pretty soon want to know what they were doing, giving you back a car that they knew could possibly have a dangerous failure.

Critical safety recall
When I booked mine in at Williams Bolton I was advised car will be sorted same day (next Thursday) and no courtesy car will be available at drop off. Parts for the recall are on order (we know they are unlikely to be in stock till mid July!) and my car will need to stay with them if unable to fix the same day due to the critical recall. This being the (likely) situation next Thursday, BMW will then deliver a replacement car to my home address that will be sourced via Enterprise car rental if a stock car not available.
I plan to chase up parts arrival next week prior to dropping off my car. I can then try and get BMW to arrange an appropriate replacement ASAP. Am I right in thinking they should provide a decent replacement car rather than a basic runabout whilst my car is not available?

So speaking to a very helpful guy, Lewis, from a local dealership he hadn’t heard of any recall so was interested to hear the QE code and then when found it is on their system as a recall as of the 26th June
He read to me what it said;
He read to me what it said;
He went on to say under the safety aspect it states;“steering track rods may break due to increased vibration due to excess temperatures, replace both and carry out steering alignment”
The joke is when he then said that the earliest they could replace would be the 26th July or the 28th if I wanted a hire car“Steering rods have been shown to break when tested under circumstances of recall. If a break occurs this would result in catastrophic loss of complete vehicle control”

So is it confirmed that the recall is for M40s only?

I hadn't noticed or felt anything different either, and I've been using daily. Better safe than sorry I guess.Wyldie85 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 12:45 pm ‘Blake’ at Vines who booked me in... didn’t know part availability. Exactly, and now knowing there is a potential serious issue with the car, I would rather it sit at the dealers until it is repaired.enuff_zed wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 1:41 pmSnoop D wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 1:36 pm Surely they can't just keep your car and say you can't have it back until it's fixed. Was this Vines as well? Don’t tell me it was Barons and someone was both courteous and helpful?Sladester100 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 3:23 pm So speaking to a very helpful guy, Lewis, from a local dealership he hadn’t heard of any recall so was interested to hear the QE code and then when found it is on their system as a recall as of the 26th June

I’ve got sight of two PDF’s from another forums but can’t work out out how to attach them so just took screenshots...
And this too;
TL/DR Version
Affects a few vehicles. G29’s manufactured between Nov ‘18 and March ‘19 inclusive
BMW NA recons you can drive them if no vibration is occurring through steering wheel - Altho it’s probably a bit dodgy considering they may fail.

Yeah I completely understand what you're saying. But, lets just say, for example, you objected the dealer to keep your car, and instead you got a trailer to pick the car up and deliver it back to your home garage. Surely they cannot stop you from taking your own car back. Ofcourse they will state they will not accept liability due to a current recall...enuff_zed wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 1:41 pmSnoop D wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 1:36 pm Surely they can't just keep your car and say you can't have it back until it's fixed. My point is they cannot just say you can't have your car back until they repair it. It's the customers car and they should decide.
