What temp does your electric fan come in?

Post by derin100 » Sat May 11, 2024 10:31 pm

Could any other owners of Z4M please say at what temperature their electric engine fan cuts in please?

Mine seems not to be coming in.

The car is when driving along but if left sitting the engine temp will slowly creep up until the coolant temp light starts to illuminate (just above the 100 degree mark) and the fan doesn’t kick in to cool it.

Many thanks

The temperature gauge on the M is for oil, not coolant.

Mine hardly ever gets higher than half-way between 75 and 100 degrees, unless in traffic on a hot day. Although it was getting close to 100 on Thursday after it had its' MOT test as it would have been running while stationary on a warm day.

I'd be interested to know how hot other peoples' Ms normally run though.

FWIW I hope yours doesn't need a new fan as they are specific to the M. I got a bill of just over £600 for a new one from RBM in 2022. :o

Ah thanks. I didn’t realise that was the oil temp.

Christ! Those fans are expensive! Knowing my luck that’s what it’ll be.

That's why it takes so long for them to get up to temperature. I had a 3.0Si before my M and it's water temperature on those.

Fingers crossed, it might just be the temperature sensor not working!
