Coolant loss

Post by mike0161 » Thu Jan 25, 2024 5:33 pm

Hi,
Ive got a 2015 2.0 e89 that is loosing coolant but there's no obvious signs of a leak. About once a month I get the low coolant warning and it takes about 1.5l to bring the float needle in the header tank back up. So it is using or loosing it somewhere I can't find. Has anyone lese had this issue and knows the source/cure.

Can only speak for N52 - I had a similar problem. It was dripping from underneath the top hose directly onto the serpentine belt which effectively flung the coolant out so there was no hard evidence of a drip until the leak developed and the belt came off!!
There was the evidence in the belly pan but it was still a job to trace the leak - had to use a torch and mirror to get under the top hose.

You can buy UV dye and torch kits for about 12 quid or so off ebay. Might be worth a try.
