Halo Ring Failure

Post by Nick2449 » Sat Dec 30, 2023 3:48 pm

Well I've swapped the bulbs over, replaced with new and checked the fuses but drivers side still doesn't work. Any other common faults or do I have to get a multi meter out? Also scanned it with my Creator 310+ but nothing showing.

Bulb is controlled by the FRM module …does your reader read FRMs?

If not FRM looks like lack of continuity..

Thanks for the reply. No I don't think it covers FRM. So I'm checking continuity to see if I have a break?

If the FRM sees a short fault then it toggles that circuit off..and reports it..if that fault persists it disables that circuit permanently…

So off to a garage reccomended to me for BMW where they thought it was probably the FRM but give them their due did every other check they could including resetting etc
However came to conclusion that I needed a new FRM from BMW which they could then get their guy to code to the car, approximately £800 all in😭
Or as a temporary measure run a wire with an iine fuse between the white terminals from the offside to the nearside.
Any other ideas greatly appreciated as it appears BMW has massively over engineered this.

FRM failures are relatively common on E90 series cars..

The issue with your failure is ..was it a generalised FRM failure or something caused by a fault elsewhere?

You don’t want to get a new FRM and repeat the failure due to faulty wiring..

A Indy with decent electronics knowledge could re-code a 2nd user one..

Good luck…

Thank you for the reply. The mechanic said he had discounted the wiring. I was wondering about trying one of the FRM repair services advertised on the Internet but wanted to know if anyone had any experience of these types of services
