Advice please for replacing my Falken FK510 ‘s
Hi. I currently have 225/35/R19 and 245/35/R19 Falken FK510 tyres which will need replacing soon. Advice at the time also suggested Goodyear F1 A3's and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S back in 2019 but things may have changed since then.
Whilst a big improvement on the original RFT I was hoping the ride would be more comfortable.
A search on here has suggested either a different brand/type of tyre would help and possibly changing the wheels from 19’ to 18’. The latter would be more hassle although I saw something like these locally: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 808549617/
Any advice on whether just changing the make or also changing the size would be appreciated, with comfort and road noise reduction being my main aim over the look of the wheel.

Well 18” tyres in the appropriate ratio will always be more comfortable than 19’ in the lower ratio…
If comfort is your focus than moving to 18’ imho would be the best move..17” even better ..
But 18” seems the best trade off on E89s comfort vs handling..
If you stick with 19” then GY Assy 6 is subjectively good on comfort..
Some summer tyres rather than UUHP or UHP tyres would offer better comfort..

I also googled 17’ vs 18’ vs 19’, opened a can of worms but I think 18’ seems a good compromise (as you said)

Judging by the pictures you have 296 styles wheels, so presuming the car is an E89?
If so the tyre sizes should be 225/35/19 front and 255/30/19 rears (from the factory). Although your rears aren't far off!
If you go for used 18", just pay attention to the offsets. The ones in the facebook link look like they are from an F series (3 or 4). They have very different offsets to the E89. They will physically fit as the hole spacing and centre bore is the same, but could be all over the place with how they sit on the hubs.
I personally wouldn't buy wheels from someone who thinks that Bridgestone and Potenzas are different brands and think that bald tyres are OK to 'get you home' too!

Yes, it’s an E89. When I changed to the current Falkens I changed the size from the originals after checking it would not cause any issues with rubbing etc.
Sounds like if I want to get 18’ wheels I know will work, they come from another E89.

Many F series wheels will fit the E89 just fine - mine are from an F87. You just need to check the offsets. Easiest way though is of course to just buy E89 wheels.
My first E89 had 17" wheels with run flats and the SE suspension, and was as comfortable as anything. Corners, however, were not enjoyable.

To go with what others have said, offset will be crucial to make sure it fills the arch gap or not. I would recommend using this website to get a very good idea of how the new tyres would fit > https://www.willtheyfit.com
I may be wrong here, but for reference on my own car, I have an E86, and the Z4M wheels which are 18"
Front: 8" Wide - Offset 40
Rear: 9" wide - Offset 30
I believe those offsets are right. In any case, the rears sit absolutely flush with the arch, and the front sits about 15/20mm inside the arch. So if my rear offset is the same width tyre, but has an offset of like 20, then that will stick out alot, and likewise if the offset is 50 it will be way inside my arches and I don't want that.
Hope that helps in some way, as I know offsets can be very confusing at first! The above website helped alot with my understanding of it.

People on car forums make EVERYTHING complicated. No fun otherwise! The devil's in the detail!
Just watch out for buckled/ cracked & welded wheels on the likes of eBay and Marketplace. Many people only sell wheels if they have to get new ones. There is an awful lot of shite out there.
